Didn't we ever get a definitive answer on this? Was he not happy with the direction of the company? Or did he finally realize it is his sister and brother in law who are set to take over the company when Vince dies and not him? Whats the deal here guys?

Wasn't there talk of him trying to get into promoting MMA events?
I think the real reason was that his heart was broken years ago when Rene Dupree was released and he took some time off to find himself.

Wasn't there talk of him trying to get into promoting MMA events? Supposedly he actually was in negotiations with Dana White of UFC, to which Dana White said "No Comment". If Shane's also a Batista fan, maybe he could be Batista's MMA coach or something. I also heard he wanted to buy shares of UFC as well.

He couldn't live with himself knowing all of WWE's deep dark secrets and being expected to not tell the world about them.

In all fairness, being 40 and getting tired of getting yelled at by your father seems like a real reason to me.

I read this fairly recently but Shane was really pushing for UFC to put an office in New York that he would run. Instead they put it in Toronto and he still wants to be involved in it.

His father would, at least once a year, stand next to him on national television and refer to him as the product of his loins/grapefruits/whatever.
That alone is enough reason to find work elsewhere.

Shane seems like the only one who would be cool. I always heard stories about how if you had a problem, you could go to Shane. Steph and Vince seem like they rule with an iron fist, whereas Shane knew the business, and wanted to make it as stress free as possible.

I was kinda hoping he would have gotten involved with TNA one way or another just for the shockwave it would cause.

The rumor is that he might end up being head of the UFC's NYC office.
