I found myself misinterpreting the Smackdown! results and actually was disappointed to find that Teddy Long was still GM of Smackdown!.
I feel like with this whole McIntyre angle, there's pretty much nothing else they can do with Teddy Long as GM, considering that he's been GM of Smackdown! on and off since 2004.
If it were up to me, I'd say that Teddy should get "canned" by Vince, and return to his managerial roots as a heel who feels upset with the system. Hell, he could even manage an upcoming tag team, or be a mouthpiece for a wrestler who so desperately needs it.
Not to mention that never has WWE had TWO face GM's, and it just seems...off.

I think the whole GM thing has run it's course. Wrestler vs GM/Authority Figure is a feud that I can do without for as long as I watch wrestling. Austin/McMahon was awesome. Cena/Bischoff was forced. McIntyre/Long is pathetic. BTW, why in the hell was Theodore Long crying about laying down for McIntyre? He is not a real wrestler. What did it matter to him? Was he concerned about his win/loss record? I was laughing my butt off at how much Long sold humiliation of having to lose to an actual wrestler. I think it would be best if the GMs were done away with (and no guest hosts as replacements) and Vince McMahon appeared once every blue moon to handle important stuff, a la Jack Tunney.

What else can Teddy Long do in WWE? Could he go back to being a ref?

As someone else said: The GM thing has been beyond stale for years now. YEARS.
I will keep saying this until I am blue in the face: They need to go back toa Jack Tunney figure who only shows up on big occasions. They had a great chance to do this with Bret Hart, but totally blew it

And I will keep agreeing with theslickness on this until I am blue in the face. The constantly present GM/Commissioner/whatever is a tired relic of the Attitude Era.

I say that this angle ends with Teddy being fired, then successfully "sues" the company.

Yeah, get rid of him. Or at least minimise his on screen presence.

I think he should've been ported to Raw rather than giving Bret Hart the position - Teddy's a hell of a lot better at it, and he could desperately use the change of scenery.

YES YES YES YES YES YESSSSSSSSSSSS
I have hated Long as GM ever since he became GM. He is so boring and lame that there is never any fun when he is GM. Heyman and even Steph were better GMs than he is. Unfortunately I think that if Sexy (AKA McIntyre) was going to get Long out of the GM position, Sexy would've done so already. But I think this is all just part of Sexy's burial.

If it turns out Drew faked the letters from Vince, then Vince should fire Teddy for not double checking with him.

I don't want on-screen authority figures. I don't want a wrestlingsports entertainment show that proudly advertises that it goes to air each week with a minimally drawn out format and a largely unbooked card. Teddy Long is perfectly able of being that unbiased guy, but he keeps getting booked into storylines rather than being used as a tool to further them. He should never, ever be the story. Wrestlers and maybe the occasional manager showed be the focuses. I want a show where I can look forward to matches as opposed to segments. I'm not tuning in to see Drew McIntyre humiliate Teddy Long. I will tune in to see Christian and MVP against a new tag team that has been creating havoc to see if they can actually go with a pair of former champs. I want the main parts of the card announced AND PUSHED the week OR TWO before.

I thought it ran it's course by 2005. I'm really sick of him and find him boring as hell. Can't believe he's been around so long.

I say let Teddy Long's run finish up, by tying together all the loose ends of his storylines.
Drew McIntyre is about to fire Teddy with a letter from Vince, but Long's old assistant Tiffany drags out Vickie Guerrero and reveals that the letters were faked by Vickie, who wanted him gone as GM so she could take over once again. (Its also revealed that she purposely messed with his pills three years ago so he would have a heart attack during his wedding).
Teddy Long in turn, does not fire or suspend McIntyre, but does dock his pay severely and states that tonight, he'll be going one on one in a casket match with... DA UNDERTAKAH. *dance* Vince comes out and says in the light of what's happened to Teddy, he's lifting his suspension. Long thanks him, but says that he's earned a decent pension, and decides to leave SD for a long vacation. He thanks McMahon for the job, and recommends Tiffany to replace him once again.
Teddy then dances off into the sunset.

I can't believe people are actually saying Mumbles McMapleLeaf should be in the Tunney role Teddy Long is made for that role as he's actually over outside of Canada at this point,Better on the mic than Bret Hart has been or ever will be and can bump when need be unlike The Incredible Glassman

Wait, wasn't the president role also done in 1996? I know Gorilla Monsoon had that role, so did Roddy Piper as ACTING president because, kayfabe-wise, Vader put Monsoon out of commission.
As for Long being the GM, I know we have had our switches in GMs on Smackdown over the years. With RAW, we dealt with Bischoff as GM for 3 years. THREE years. At least when Stephanie was the GM for Smackdown, as well as Heyman, it was better. Personally, I kind of liked the idea of Heyman as GM because on one show, we had the former WCW head as GM, and on the other, we had the former owner of ECW as GM.
By the way, there could be another role for Long. He could go back to being a manager. How was his role as manager for Rodney Mack back in the day? It wasn't until I read on the web that he was a manager before being a ref. It's kind of similar how Scott Armstrong was a wrestler before being a ref.

I like Teddy. I think his character is as close to Tunney as we have had. He is usually pretty fair. I like the character.

Honestly, no. Having Vickie Guerrero keeps it nice and fair. And how can I ever forget this:
