I often have seen people say this about a guy who is either floundering on RAW, in RAWs midcard of doom, or previously on ECW once they got over...People always claim that a guy has a better chance of getting over on Smackdown, and by sending him there, he'll be a major main event player in no time and end up back on RAW on the top of the card.
...My questions is....who has EVER done that? Has anyone gone from doing nothing on RAW, to being sent to Smackdown to get over, then return to RAW better off than before?
(This thread isn't me being a dick about it, just more curious since I haven't really gotten to watch much Smackdown since..well, ever actually.)

How was Batista doing nothing on Raw when he got sent to Smackdown? Wasn't he the World Heavyweight Champion?
Dolph Ziggler was rarely seen on Raw and now is on TV every single week on Smackdown, so I'd count him.

A few years ago Big Show was jobbing left and right on Raw. He was traded to SD and won the title a few weeks later handing Lesnar his first loss. The came back to raw eventually and did well.

I still don't think Batista counts, he's been at the same position on the card since WM21.

^ Nope neither did. Big Show is easily the best example. HHH left a couple of years ago and came back to, well be HHH on raw

Another one: Mark Henry, forgettable on Raw in 2003, out with an injury, became a decent monster heel on Smackdown/ECW, decent face on Raw now

Plus, being on TV every week doesn't mean much....Jerry Flynn was on TV every week.

Dolph Ziggler & CM Punk for starters Did Punk ever come back to RAW as the focal point of the show? I think you've made both here and in your original post that the triumphal return to Raw is the important thing. I, for one, see the move to Smackdown as the more important thing. That is, floundering and directionless low-carders and poorly booked mid-carders often can move over to Smackdown and find themselves put in a position to succeed. The position to succeed is key. Khali and Ziggler were given opportunities to get over in 2009 after the draft and both did so. Kane, while he is still very much a JTTS, generally looks more dominant on Smackdown. Chavo can be credible, even in a jobber role, as opposed to pure comedy jobber against Hornswaggle. Punk and MVP are two guys who were sort of lost in the upper midcard shuffle over on Raw, yet have been able to carve out niches on Smackdown. So what it comes down to is, Smackdown's writers put together angles that allow the wrestlers to get themselves over. If they fail, it's actually the fault of the wrestler, as opposed to the crap booking from Raw that leaves the wrestler DOA. Now, Smackdown's writers don't control the booking of Raw. They can't force the guy to be used equally well. But the wrestlers who move to Smackdown from Raw can build on their skill sets. It's undeniable that certain wrestlers - Punk and MVP, of course, are the posterchildren - have been better used on the blue show. That Raw then screws the pooch is more evidence of their incompetence and the skill of the Smackdown writers than anything else. The Raw writers get in the way of talent far too often. That's why we say send the wrestler to Smackdown. I (we?) feel that the wrestler will be able to grow and thrive there. He'll get over. He'll have more opportunity to move up the card rather than laterally. The Raw comeback isn't that big of an issue. The problem is when Raw's writers are handed such a hot commodity, and then they book him into a proverbial trash can.

I'll add JBL:
- floundering directionless APA/Texan gimmick on RAW - became dickhead rich Texan main event heel and funny commentator on SD - plugged into upper midcard heel role against the likes of Cena and HBK on RAW

Randy Orton.
After his abysmal face turn, and feud with HHH he more or less did nothing... Then he turned heel, went to Smackdown to continue his feud with Undertaker and became white-hot before returning to Raw... leading to Rated RKO and then The Age of Orton, then to Legacy, then to what he is now.

Well in recent memory John Morrison is the best example of over on Smackdown doing nothing on Raw. I think its just that there seems to be more room at the top for guys to shine in Smackdown then on Raw. Cena, HHH, and Orton all have top spots locked up then there is usually two other vets that occupy a top spot as well (Right now Jericho and Edge fit that bill).
So its kinda hard for a guy like Shamus to get to be a top dog when he has 5-6 guys already established over him. While on Smackdown there is Taker and usually 2-3 other guys so its not that hard to see a guy coming in a being a top guy because there isn't as much of a log jam at the top.
As for the mid card on Smackdown and Raw guys both tend to float but on Smackdown there tends to be more upward mobility (Recently on Raw the Miz, Morrison, Ted Jr, and R-Truth are just kinda out there, While on Smakdown Kingston and Rhodes are in a similar situation)
