Once it stopped trying to be a watered-down version of ECW, it became the best WWE show. Should have changed the name from ECW, yeah, but it was a great show in its past year. Seconded. I was pissed when I found out it was getting cancelled.

I enjoyed the show. I loved Christian's Title reign and his matches against Ryder, and I loved Dreamer's feuds with Swagger, Christian, and Ryder. I enjoyed Punk and Burke as well (not that Burke's push lasted too long)... there was a lot of good stuff on the show and I still miss it.

Just reading this thread makes me sad. Man I missed the original ECW. This was just an abortion that went bad early and had over 3 years of suffering involved.

What I mostly remember from this era was these boards. Things seemed to be at a fever pitch, with a lot of negative feelings. Thankfully it has improved greatly.
As for ECW...I thought it was horrid until it became "ECW-Lite". Stop pretending to be something you're not, I always thought. Once it became a breeding ground for rookies It became my favorite wrestling show.

I miss it.
It was a great way to get some of the lower mid card guys some TV exposure, and they were all on the same playing field, so anyone could realistically beat anyone.

The Zombie annoys the living hell out of me...not the actual character, but the backlash that the ONE-TIME GIMMICK received back then and to a lesser extent, now.
Basically, the character was developed by Heyman/Dreamer (take your pick) to be a mocking of the sports-entertainment gimmicks, and demonstrate that the ECW Originals/ "Extremists" were going to be different. Thus, Sandman completely caned the living hell out of it.
Instead, the IWC/Critics/Fans got SO hung up on the "This isn't exactly like the old ECW..wah wah wah" that they pointed towards the Zombie as being the immediate reason why ECW didn't off the ground properly, meanwhile 90% of them didn't get the reason behind the segment.
And thus it continued for most of the three or so years, until eventually the new ECW lost it's original vision after Heyman left, and just became another brand to WWE, incorporating the very same concepts/gimmicks as the Raw and Smackdown! brands.
And the weirdest part about it? The Zombie got a level of notoriety, and to this day, STILL makes money on the indy circuit/autograph convention circuit simply by being at the right place at the right time.

ECW was decent but didn't really have much of a "hook" once it stopped even trying to be Extreme. They should have just renamed it "Heat".
And I know people will hate me for this, but Christian's long and virtually unbroken run with the ECW title did nobody any favors...least of all Christian himself, who should have been working his way up the RAW/Smackdown roster instead.

Granted, it was nothing like the original ECW...but it kick-started the WWE careers of CM Punk, The Miz, Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne, gave new life to John Morrison, Mark Henry and the Big Show and even introduced wrestling fans to the once and future Pope.
All in all, it actually accomplished quite a bit.

It started off so well, I mean I can say that I was actually excited. RVD won the MITB Ladder Match at WM 22...announces that he's going to cash it in at One Night Stand against Cena, does so, and wins. Awesome!
Also, this:
It all started so well.

Overall it was the most enjoyable WWE programming for the four years it ran. People never seemed to get over the fact it wasn't the same as the old ECW and appreciate it for what it was - a decent show where wrestling was the priority. Yes, it had it's crap moments, but the positives far outweighed the negatives.

I'm kinda split about the whole thing. I was excited for its return, but then after Van Dam got busted, it all went down the tubes. Still, it managed to win me over about a year before its cancellation. I kinda miss it now.

God the Spirit Squad sucked and the build to One Night Stand 2006 was really good as well as the build to the relaunch of ECW. But it was quick that the WWE wasn't behind the concept all that much. They neutered the product they tired so hard to distinguish as something different.

After ONS 2005 and 2006, people expected the old ECW back because of the way those ppvs were produced. However, it just became a watered down version of it and the new characters besides CM Punk were shitted on for a while. After Lashley won the title, there was almost no hopes of the ECW being itself. However, the last year or so of ECW was actually entertaining on its own end.

I watched EVERY ECW episode so I saw the ups and downs, but yes when it became WWE's true 3rd brand it was a really good show and best wrestling show on TV in my opinion most weeks.
Christian's title reigns with Dreamer's in the middle of that was great.
Swagger in my opinion has not been the same since leaving ECW, even his run now is just missing something.

I had no issue with what ECW became. It launched CM Punk/Miz/Morrison and numerous others into the spotlight - something they'd of never got on Smackdown/Raw.

Also four years ago today - Kelly Kelly was a failure at stripping. Four years ago, it was established that Mike Knox's future would be to either be presented as a generic hoss, or the world's biggest jobber. It all depended on the flavor of the month.
