Up until Bret Hart stepped in as the GM, the guest host was the authority figure on the show. They would mix the authority call situations with some comedy. Since they have a permanent authority figure on the show, the guest host is sticky there for comedy. I can see where it appears out of place, but the WWE is doing what they feel they have to do to bring more interest into the program.

The fact that they named a GM is a sign that they are phasing out the idea of a guest host. Most likely because they aren't getting the type of celebrities they got when they started the idea.
All in all once you remove the guest host duties as a authority figure it kinda neuters the idea of having one at all.

Just nix the guest-hosts and let Bret be a Jack Tunney-like GM. It's not hard, WWE.

And if we are going to have Guest Hosts, can we at least have them in the arena, not in pretaped pieces that are poorly slapped together and kill the momentum of whatever they're trying to do in the ring?

We cannot end the guest hosts until the Rock returns.

Now it's funny you say that because the minute they name a GM, here come the big-time celebs. Cutcher, Bradley Cooper and Rampage...
