In many ways, NXT was an experiment. IMO, it started off as riveting TV, kinda lost its way in the middle, and then ended brilliantly. I like how they're having the pros do a live intro of their rookies for Season 2, but I think they may have one more season in the tank if they do it right. Maybe a 2nd chance show for a lot of the New Talent Initiative guys that didn't get used. It resurrected kayfabe by wrapping it in another layer of kayfabe, and it proved that the WWE still has some tricks up its sleeve.

it started out amazing.........then the challenges tanked both the ratings and the quality of the show in the middle, but the end was fantastic

3, and I'm being generous because the Bryan/Miz/Cole stuff actually had a decent payoff and the last 2-3 eps were good. Most of it was utter garbage populated by charisma black holes and guys who sucked at wrestling, making the few standouts (Barrett, Gabriel) look like the second coming of Ricky Steamboat by comparison.

10.
The show was a great mix of decent wrestling, some goofy challenge segments, and tons of IWC torturing fun.
And as it already looks, Season 2's going to be a hoot.

The quality of the show did go downhill, but i think it ultimately succeeded in what it set out to do and that's make new stars. We now have 7 (8 if you want to include Slater......) new superstars who the crowd are familiar with and already have storylines going into their debut.
It's a helluva lot better than just having them debut on Raw or Smakdown, beat a few jobbers, lose to an established star in a low mid card feud, then dissapear completley formula that the 'E have seemed to have done over the last 7 to 8 years.
8/10.

See, I thought Gabriel looked kinda spastic in the ring, like he was making way too many motions to get from point A to point B with his offense. Barrett looked completely polished every time he was in the ring, and it helped that Jericho was yelling at the announcers to talk about him more all the time. I think Jericho should have a full time job standing next to the table and yelling at the announcers...like the embodiment of Vince in the headset. Anyway, the right guy won, and we got a great fued with Danielson.

It resurrected kayfabe by wrapping it in another layer of kayfabe, and it proved that the WWE still has some tricks up its sleeve. My sediments exactly. While the challenges weren't the best thing in world, it did help get some of the guys (namely Wade Barrett and Michael Tarver, who debuted his bad ass "I'm the product" catchphrase during one of them) get over. Honestly, I think there would be less Internet hate* towards the first season if... 1) Daniel Bryan would have decimated everyone. That really wouldn't have gotten anyone else over, but at least the Internet would be pleased. 2) Daniel Bryan wasn't even in the competition to begin with. Many of us went into NXT hoping for the scenario listed above. When it didn't happen, the hate started flowing. Therefore no Daniel Bryan = less hate overall. Don't get me wrong: There still would have been some major bitching. It just wouldn't be this bad. 3) Kaval was there as well. It would have given the Internet someone else to root for. I know that he isn't as "universally loved" as Daniel Bryan, but at least it's a name we know. * - When I say "Internet," I don't necessarily mean us on this board. Say what you will, but we crappers tend to have unique tastes when it comes to this kind of stuff.

I get what they were trying to do, to take new talent showcase them in a learning environment and give it that reality TV spin.
I just didn't like it.
In fact I didn't like it all that much when they did Tough Enough as a show but at least then it had some heart when you saw who hard it is to train to be a wrestler.
I didn't like the Diva search either, as it showed little talent and was little more than an excuse for pillow fights and pie smashing of models who had little or no interest in being WWE talent.
I liked it even less when Tough Enough was downgraded to segment because it was became the male Diva search.
I'd rather they just put FCW on the air and explained it as a developmental territory where they just did what they already do in hopes of getting a contract.
Oh and this was my first exposure to Brian Danielson and after having heard so much about the guy and seeing sooooooo little in terms of his talent I have to draw one of two conclusions... a) He is one of the most seriously mis-used talents to ever be recruited, or... b) He's hevaily overhyped.

5. The stupid challenges and HEATH SLATER! and Mr. No Talent Himself DAVID OTUNGA Nuff Said Bad wrestlers aren't a reason to hate the show. The whole point was they randomly took 8 rookies and had wrestlers judge who sucked and who was good.

This first season was good. I can totally forgive the stupid challenges as "we're not sure what to do at this point in the show" as long as Wade Barrett ended up looking great in the end.

The theme song got old in the first 30 seconds of the show. Holy CRAP that is a terrible, terrible theme song for the show.

The ending was so anticlimactic. For weeks, Wade Barret has been in the lead, so I am thinking there has to be some suspense at the end. I don't see anything in Barret. He is a decent wrestler in the ring as best (nothing special that really stands out). As far as him being a TV personality, I think he has 0 charisma. Are they going to package him as the big dull gooney foreigner like Kozlov ? I saw him wrestle Goldust at a house show last week and it was pretty borning to watch him live.
My suggestion would be for the WWE to only reveal the person getting voted off at the end of each show. That way there could be some suspensive towards the winner of the competition. After weeks of telling us Wade Barret was in the lead, I was thinking there has to be some twist or turn as they close up this season. Nothing, no shock moments. Ok, Daniel Bryan eliminated himself, but what about the rest of the season ?

6. Terrible show to watch, but it did a good job developing these wrestlers. 6 and not a 5 because it started out good.

The first 2 shows it was the best wrestling program on television. After that it went downhill, but still it's something sifferent and it helps to build up stars. I give it a solid 6, and I think NXT2 will atleast be a 7.

I think it started very ell, and otbher than the challenges even the middle of it was good. But to be honest, even the end of it was just okay when you set aside the IWC markfest that was the Danielson/Cole feud the end of it was only good, not great.
I do like how Barrett won. I will say he looked leaps and bounds better than everyone else, slightly better than Danielson even (though alot of that can go to his booking as opposed to Danielson himself, I've seen maybe 2 or 3 matches with Danielson in the indies and even I can tell they have him on a leash right now). The 3 on 3 match with him in it truly made him look like he belonged, and for a little bit I honestly believed a PPV match between him and Cena would be quite awesome (if Shamus can get the shot (which I approved of as well) so should Barrett).
My only other problem was how the poll was set up. So often you'd see someone pin the guy immediately above him and then not get bumped up. Plus, Wade Barrett was at the top the entire time once Danielson left, and they built it up SO much it seemed so obvious he wouldn't win. The finale itself was damn near ruined by the fact they made the final two between two heels, and they didn't make the finale an actual match, just a promo spot against each other. Not a bad idea, but make those two throw down. Have another episode if you have to even! That finale just seemed rushed is all.
I still give it an 8. Good show, but it had room for improvement, definitely. Fix the problems I mentioned and you have a 10/10 from me.
I do like how they have audience participation (which I'm sure was a move they wanted for this season, but the votes would've been insanely slanted towards Danielson), and a few 3rd gen stars this time. Plus...Percy Watson! It has to get at least a 9 for that.

Honestly, apart from some good stuff at the start and end, it was as a whole just shitty.
