I've attended a handful of shows at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh - sadly, I won't be there tonight for WWE's final event at this venue. After mentioning the Angle/Cena match from No Way Out 05 in another thread, just wondering if the crappers have any other fond memories of shows/matches from this venue. Some other favorites: -HHH/Benoit Iron Man match (2004) - I just wish I had had better seats that night I was up in the rafters for this show. -HHH/Jeff hardy, Armageddon 2007 - these two have surprising chemistry and I was constantly amused by Hunter smiling during the match. -I attended the SD/ECW show in Pittsburgh the night R-Truth debuted.... and had the show open with an Undertaker promo where he swore all sorts of nasty things on Vickie Guererro, then set the ringposts on fire. Sadly, this show also had all the Steelers players standing in front of me during the show so I couldn't even see the titantron to watch some of it. anyone else have a good memory or two about shows at the Igloo?

- Angle v. Austin from Unforgiven 2001. Say what you will 'bout the Invasion, but the crowd reaction when Angle won the match was great.

I dont think anything tops Foley going for a ride off the Cell.

Yeah, Foley's two Cell bumps at King of the Ring 98 are the lasting memories I'll always have of WWF/E shows in the Igloo. And of course who can forget Terry Funk being chokeslammed out of his shoes when he came in to check on Mick! Some of my favorite commentary in that match as well....."That's it, he's dead!" I also fondly remember SummerSlam 95 from the Igloo, not in a wow that show was great way, because it sucked, but more in a, hey at the time I thought that show was really awesome because King Mabel didn't get the title! Really good ladder match though. Blue Blood Triple H made his PPV debut, and Hakushi and the 123 Kid had a fun little opener.

I was at that show too! In fact it was taped on my birthday: August 26. Another interesting note is that the show featured FCW talents Jake Hager and Nick Nemeth in dark matches. Hmm, whatever happened to those guys? My dad took me to my first WWF show in 1992. I can't remember much about it except that our seats were really high up and in the audience were these two guys dressed as Ric Flair and Mr. Perfect. Their costumes were really good--one guy had a robe like Flair's and the other made a "Mr. Perfect" jacket with the sparkly letters. So the guy dressed as Perfect held up a sign, and a few seats over my dad and I heard this: "PERFECT YOU MEATHEAD! PUT THAT SIGN DOWN! WE CAN'T GET ANY PICTURES UP HERE!" As I said in the RAW thread, I attended a show in 1993 that marked the last time the arena's roof was open all the way. What sticks out in my mind about that show was that it was the first time I interacted with a wrestler; we had floor seats and I managed to high-five Virgil as he made his way around ringside. (Yeah, go ahead and laugh. But as a kid it was pretty cool to be that close to guys I had previously only seen on TV.) I was there for SummerSlam '95 and KOTR '98--I still have my t-shirt from the latter. And then there was Pittsburgh's first RAW, when Bret Hart dissed us: "If they were gonna give the United States of America an enema, they'd put the hose right here in Pittsburgh!"

While I never been to Pennsylvania, I would say that as soon as I heard that this would be the last show at the Mellon Arena/Igloo I immediately thought of the Hell in a Cell match. While this match is not that great when it comes to actual wrestling, it is probably the most insane and the most violent match in WWE history.
Also Kane won the WWF Championship there.

HITC for me too, for another great JR line: "A warm summer's night here in the Igloo..."

- Angle v. Austin from Unforgiven 2001. Say what you will 'bout the Invasion, but the crowd reaction when Angle won the match was great. Yeah, I was there live. Awesome match and awesome crowd. I was there two other times - one Raw and one Smackdown. Always a fun time, and I wish I could have been there tonight.

SummerSlam 95: Razor vs. Shawn, ladder match 2. Also Diesel (one of my favorite guys at the time) successfully defending the belt. KOTR 98: The Hell in a Cell Match. And Kane's WWF title win. Unforgiven 2001: Hardcore title match, RVD vs. Y2J. Angle winning the WWF title. A Smackdown! in 2002: The last Smackdown before the change from WWF to WWE. Featuring Hulk Hogan defending the Undisputed WWF Championship against Chris Jericho. I attended all those shows.

- Angle v. Austin from Unforgiven 2001. Say what you will 'bout the Invasion, but the crowd reaction when Angle won the match was great. This is the first moment that came to mind. That scene with Angle, his family and the roster celebrating with him in the ring after winning the title is probably the one moment I always think of when I think of WWF in 2001.
