It's funny. When Jericho made that promo, the lines about ratings and buyrates going down was tongue in cheek since ratings and business as a whole was doing great. Now that Jericho promo fits perfectly with the company's current position. What a difference a decade makes. It was also a dig at WCW, as they had begun their descent by the time Jericho appeared on Raw. Oh, sweet irony!

You know, I never understood the "Jericho was misused in WCW" thing. The guy was in several high profile feuds, won titles, and was over. He was perfect for his role there as a midcarder during the nWo years.

Where we are right now, it's looking unlikely. AJ Styles would be the best bet, but the best reaction for him would have been back in around 06/07, when TNA looked to genuinely be on the up, and you'd hear a lot of TNA chants at WWE PPVs. Actually I think the likes of Samoa Joe and even Christopher Daniels would have got respectable reactions back then.
Now though? None of those guys would get anything close to Jericho's debut pops. Even somebody like Sting, it's at the point now where a big chunk of the audience won't have a clue who he is. Obviously the WCW generation are gonna appreciate it, but there's less and less of them tuning in nowadays.

For anyone saying AJ or Joe you are kidding yourselves. Sure, they may be popular on the internet but casual fans would just be confused as to who these guys are.
Sting is well past it.
I say it's not possible currently.

WWE can easily have something like Jericho did back when. They need too get a guy that everyone cares about, wants too see in the WWE, and it could happen. AJ Styles is a great example of someone this could happen with.

I think Sting could still get a great pop depending on were he shows up. The best bet would be the ATL of course.

Are we all forgetting about Albert? most wwe fans already have..... what memorable thing did he do? T & A? or maybe getting shave your back chants? the only time I found him tolerable was his brief team with Scotty 2 Hotty as the hip hop hippo.

I think Awesome Kong would've got a huge pop if they brought her in to fued with LayCool right after or during the Piggie James angle.

Wasn't there a rumour a while back about Eminem becoming a pro wrestler? It was totally rediculous, but I do believe that WOULD not only pop a crowd, but probably pop a 5.0 rating for RAW for like, 6 months at least.

I would have loved to heard the reaction if during one of the opening weeks on ECW (like a show at Hammerstein) if Rene Dupree were in the ring doing his "I'm more extreme than anyone" thing and New Jack's music hit.

I don't think its possible at the moment...
I have always been a jericho fan...but what is great to me is the reaction this guy got in the wwe.....I mean he was a mid card bad guy for wcw and the place went nuts for him.....it was truly amazing! It will never be topped......

The guy kicks all variations of arse since his prolonged stint in Japan. It's almost as though he's a different guy.

There will never be a debut like Jericho again because the E doesn't do the proper hype anymore for debuting superstars...not even their own. The only awesome "debut" I can remember recently was for the Nexus because it came out of nowhere. They hyped up Jericho's debut weeks ahead of time with the countdown timer and he got the added benefit of having mic time with the Rock upon his debut.
I can't see any new debut in WWE reaching that level unless TNA blows up something huge and a lot more people know who Samoa Joe and AJ Styles are. Now if we're talking re-debuts, Jeff Hardy will always get the huge pop no matter how many times he comes back. For a Jericho level pop for a re-debut?
Jack Swagger brags about being the best amateur wrestler ever to step in a WWE ring and issues an open challenge for one of the big four PPV's. Swagger's in the ring at the PPV awaiting an opponent...Kurt Angle's music hits.
That's the only one I think of that could match Jericho's debut these days.

In terms of pop: I don't believe so. Why? For the most part that true smart crowd have basically left WWE. The few slivers of them just watch ROH or are not watching wrestling at all IMO. Also, back then think of the time. 3 major companies were competing at the time for audiences. You may have preferred ECW, WCW, or WWF as your main source of wrestling but you paid attention to all promotions. That mentality isn't so much around anymore I believe. You got TNA marks who think anything Vince McMahon touches is tainted, WWE marks who think nothing outside WWE exists, and ROH marks who despise the former two.
In terms of overall surprise: No. All because of that evil internet. You would have to be lucky to have Sting's WWE debut not spill out ahead of time.

I believe that if Vince played his cards right and only three people in the company knew about it that it could be done. If TNA can do it with Kurt Angle, then it can still be done in WWE. They just need to have guys stop running their mouths when they get signed.
