Another thread made me think of this. Any gamer knows what I mean... for some reason there's always some water tage in a game that slows you down, is generally harder then it needs to be, and is less fun then the rest of the game. In wrestling games, that equals the triple threat, four way or handicap match that career modes seem to constantly thrust you into ie, Four Way Cage Match in DoR2. Why do developers hate us so?

Personally the only match in a video game that I think qualifies as a "water level" is the Scramble Match. God I hate them.

While playing SvR 2010, I ended up writing a 12-point gigantic, angry rant about a 2 vs 2 tornado tables match. I think the biggest problem was not that it was a ridiculously hard match to win, but just that they didn't explain the f'n controls or how to break the table.

I remember playing a SD game online in a Fatal Four Way Ladder match. It was the worst and best experience of my SD gaming life. A ONE HOUR match filled with finishers up the ass and no one able to get the win. When it finally ended and I lost, I wasn't all too pleased.

My personal water-level in wrestling games or SVR games to be exact, is the MITB match. I can't seem to have any that last less than 40 minutes.

I agree with this statement fully. I am currently playing the original Mario and that damn water level always messes me up.

Run one of the ladders all the way up the ramp and they'll all slowly walk over to grab it, leaving you free to have a few moments of tugging on the briefcase. They'll come running back to get it, but it'll at least get some of the wait out of the way each time.

I love most videogame water levels, especially those in the Donkey Kong Country and 2-D Super Mario games. Hell, I even somewhat enjoyed the bomb-defusing water level in the first Ninja Turtles game on NES. So the analogy really doesn't work for me.
But generally I hate tag matches in wrestling games because your CPU-controlled partner is usually dumber than a box of rocks, and your opponents are relentless.

It is kind of necessary to be relentless in the use of cheaper tactics in HCTP to get on the scoreboard in the No limit Slobber Knocker with a guy like Christian.

They're trying to make it more realistic, in WWE multi-man matches are harder for the competitors, even the most basic move can knock them out for five minutes.

I hate water levels and really didn't know that it was common. In terms of wrestling video games I'd say the equivalent is always some sort of multi man match.
Tag matches in the AKI games weren't hard really, but they take a lot longer to win because your partner never keeps the pin from being broken up. Therefore getting a tag match during story mode always pissed me off. The handicapped match against the APA in No Mercy was insanely hard sometimes. Hell, even Triple Threat matches in the AKI games take way to long because of all the pin/submission break ups.
MITB on the Smackdown games is just really long and boring.
So yes, I think you're on to something here.

I've never played SvR, but I just wanted to say damn you for making me think of Atlantica on Kingdom Hearts. Damn you!

I spent ages trying to put someone through a table and they just ended up bouncing off each time. I got so frustrated and in the end had to get help from a tinternet forum. Also, MITB matches. They seem to drag on for ever, tag matches get frustrating too when your teammate completely fails to intercept the guy coming to break up the 3 count time after time.

Honestly the 2 worst matches so far on DoR2 have been the early tag match against HHH and Flair that you don't HAVE to win to continue the story (something like the second match in story mode) and the Cage Match against HHH soon after. The first is semi-excusable because you don't heve to win to advance the story but unless you've poured points into Stamina and Speed (To the detriment of other stats) you simply cannot climb the cage fast enough.
