www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7K0oNE8zfo&feature=emailDuring an episode of Raw in around May 2005 towards the start of Edge and Lita's relationship and just before Hardy was rehired, he came into the arena and attacked Edge twice and then threatened them mentioning ROH at the same time. Many fans were left confused as to whether the attack was a shoot or a work and many of the comments on that video are arguments on it. What do you guys think. I am certain that it was a work for many reasons.

How can anyone think this was a shoot?
Sure the WWE is going to let someone get attacked, continue to film it, not arrest the attacker, and allow him to cut a promo.

I can't help but think that they'll do something similar with Daniel Bryan.

Oh Matt Hardy....too bad he had to squander all that heat. That wasn't entirely his fault. Sure, there was that horrible promo that didn't exactly help matters. But we don't know if he did that himself or if WWE's top-notch creative team wrote that for him. If he made that up himself, it's entirely his fault that it fell so flat. But there was also the problem with the booking of the Edge/Matt feud anyway -- Matt was booked to be a complete bitch from start to finish. If I recall the match correctly Matt didn't get any significant offense in at all. I can see blaming matt for the horrible promo, but there is no wrestler alive that would be able to keep his heat after getting booked as horribly as Matt did during that feud.

I wonder if they gave him the go to mention ROH.

It was a worked shoot. No doubt about it. But at the time I could really understand how someone thought it was a shoot. IMO it's the best worked shoot that's ever happened in wrestling.

It is true that Matt Hardy was booked really weak in that feud, but it was probably just fine in the big picture. Once everyone remembered that it was just Matt Hardy, it would have fizzled out. Better to protect the real star, Edge.

Whlie I agree that losing the heat was not entirely his fault, I have to point out that Hardy was NOT booked like a bitch from start to finish. He threw himself and Edge to an electrical console in a street fight and kicked Edge's (and Lita's) ass in a steel cage match. Sure he lost the feud, but he was booked relatively strong. Plus, everytime they fought it was clear that Edge was afraid of facing him (see Taboo Tuesday 05).

Better to protect the real star, Edge. Had it been booked better, Matt Hardy would be a legit main eventer right now. All it would have taken is a more evenly matched feud. Matt should NOT have lost that first match the way that he did. If they insisted on having a bloody Matt Hardy lose the match without being pinned or submitted, they should have had the ref stop the match due to blood loss or something with Matt still fighting. Also, what really killed the feud for me wasn't the booking really. It was the fact that he first Summerslam match was incredibly stiff and realistic looking, and their future matches were didn't get that treatment. Nothing after Summerslam made the feud look realistic anymore.

Plus, everytime they fought it was clear that Edge was afraid of facing him (see Taboo Tuesday 05). I disagree. IMO the feud was dead and burried after SummerSlam when they had Edge beat down Hardy so bad that the match had to be stopped. And it was like the 2nd or 3rd match on the card. Anything that happened after that was tainted to me. A proper ending would be some kind of double countout where they just brawl all over the building the rest of the night with no one gaining a clear advantage, or possibly the spot they did on RAW where both go off the stage and neither can get up. By making Edge look like he just kicked the living shit out of Matt so bad that he couldn't continue in their FIRST official match, it was done from that moment.

Yeah. I was at that Summer Slam where Edge beat him... You could just feel the air sucked out of the feud.

This fued was dead before it began. It featured Matt Hardy.
Sure, guy has his fans, but no one in power in WWE cares remotely. It was always about his brother. Always.

This is exactly what I was talking about. Nothing after that match mattered, because in the fans' eyes, Matt was Edge's bitch.
