At first they said that they banded together because of the way that they were treated by WWE management during NXT season 1. But a few weeks later, Wade Barrett specifically said that they have no personal problems with Cena or anybody that they've attacked, and that they were all part of a much bigger picture.
So what is this bigger picture? What exactly are they trying to accomplish? They've certainly gotten people to take notice of them, which is a major accomplishment in itself, but what is their ideology here?

Their "bigger picture" is simply for people to notice them. Maybe something else will come up kayfab wise in the future, but somehow I doubt it. |

Saying "I'm part of a much bigger picture" is basically a way to foreshadow "I'm not the one you should be worrying about." Nexus isn't acting on their own |

The bigger picture is, in fact, that large cardboard version of Chyna's Playboy cover, as seen during her feud with Ivory heading into WrestleMania 17.
That or Barrett kind of lost track of things and is trying to keep from looking like an idiot until he can come up with some suitable thing for Nexus to strive for.

It has something to do with Undertaker's vegetative state, Sting's "Deception" promos, the "They" Abyss keeps referring to in his promos, who kidnapped Samoa Joe, Booker T's favor to Randy Orton AND the White Hummer.
The Nexus is gonna be what ties it all together, JUST YOU WATCH!
