I misunderstood the posting on their website and assumed Dusty Rhodes would be teaming with Goldust last night so I went to the show since it was only about 10 minutes from my house. Turns out they were only there for a meet and greet before the show.
Show wasn't terrible, I've definitely been to worse. The big problem was that every guy who came out first got cheered by default.
To be perfectly honest, I can't even remember who were in the first few matches but the faces won the first two and the heels won the next two. Cable Jones was in the 2nd one, had a hell of a presence about him. Wes Brisco was in one of the matches but I can't even remember if it was the first or second (I should've taken notes.) Michael McGillicutty took on someone with a bit of a martial arts background. Once again the crowd was confused because they popped big for McGillicutty when he was clearly playing the heel. Guess it was a case of cheering for the guy they knew. There was also some guy who came out with his barrettes or bows in his hair to make it all weird looking who got instant heat just from walking out.
There was a squash where I actually remember the particpants. Drake Brewer completely destroyed Jacob Novak. Brewer looked like the lovechild of Snitsky and Heidenreich. Won't be surprised to see him get a chance on at least NXT.
A few matches in, Lieutenant General Manager Norman Smiley announced that due to Alex Riley's injuries he wouldn't be able to perform. Riley interrupts saying he just got the staples removed from his head and he wants to compete. Smiley refuses to let him saying he has an 8 man tag set up. Riley suggests that he get to pick a team against Team "Frowney." Teams wind up being: Mason Ryan, Husky Harris and The Dudebusters taking on Percy Watson, Eli Cottonwood, Lucky Cannon and a Mystery Partner.
After intermission there was a Divas Bikini Contest hosted by Byron Saxton, who seems to be picking up where Coach left off. Jamie Keyes was the clear winner by crowd noise but Saxton clamined that none of them had won. Percy Watson came out. Dude is a star already. Long story short, Saxton goes for the cheap shot but gets caught. Watson and all 4 Divas send Saxton packing.
Titus O'Neill came out to a big pop after intermission to take on Leo Kruger. Decent back and forth with Kruger pulling out the win after reversing a rollup and pulling the trunks for leverage.
Hunico and Johnny Curtis took on Brodius Clay and Rhys Ali (I think?) Very old school tag team match and we got to see a rare spot where the ref misses the heel team's legal tag. Hunico wins it with a swanton bomb. Clay had been taken out by a plancha by Curtis. After everyone left he finally got up and asks the crowd if they won. Raises his hand in victory and struts to the back.
Main event time. Mystery partner turned out to be Bo Rotunda. Husky got on the mic beforehand chastising his baby brother. Bo said that he would be the one to finally teach him a lesson. They go to start the match and Husky tags out. They did a real good job of keeping them away from each other. Dudebusters got decent heat for being "pros." They made sure to let us know a few times. Husky only got in the ring with Bo when he was down on the mat and tagged out before he could get any offense in.
The brothers finally had their one on one time when everything started to spill all over. Bo pinned Husky with a rollup. There was an odd moment after the main event where all the faces were celebrating but Eli just kinda stood there and left. Not sure if it was some angle or he was just confused.
I would go to the show again after I learn more about who these guys were. It's probably not saying much that there were 8 matches and I can barely remember who was in any of them. It's also probably not a good thing that the overall best performer of the night was Alex Riley and he didn't even get in the ring. Percy Watson is already a star. OH YEAH!
Overall the work was decent, not very sloppy. Oddest part was the first match ending with a shoulderblock. Hunico will be a great part of the cruiserweight division....oh wait.
I think I've rambled enough about this now. Wish I could remember more names but it was really hard to hear as it is. The show was being held in an arena used for livestock judging during the county fair.
