Most of the time, I want them to sound close to the original. What's the point? There's not much really, but I tend to like it if the tempo is a little faster maybe, or something subtle.
Sometimes, a completely different take on the song is cool, like Real McCoy's version of Redbone's "Come & Get Your Love" but usually, I think that kinda stuff sucks, especially when someone slows a song down like I think it was Toad the wet Sprocket that slowed down Kiss' "Rock & Roll All Nite" Stupid bastards, I was actually pissed about that.
So, in closing I find most artists are way off the mark when they toy around with someone else's music(but not always)
