I don't ordinarily make threads like this, buuuut yeah.
I'm trying to learn guitar, and unfortunately don't have money for actual lessons. I'm sure they'd be insanely helpful, but I'm poor as hell at the moment.
So does anyone around here know of any good, preferably free, tutorials or videos online and stuff to help with the teachin'? Eventually I'd like to actually get a teacher, but I know it's quite possible to self-teach or learn via videos and stuff.
Just outta curiosity. Thanks!

First of all, and this is all a matter of personal preference, but I find it better to just teach yourself. I learned myself over taking lessons, and you can really build up your own style A GREAT resource is Ultimateguitar.com Once you learn how to read guitar tabs (if you should want to), they have a ton of songs. Lastly the best advice I can give you is to not give up. Once you learn how to play guitar, it's one of the most fun things you can ever learn

Thanks man, I'll check the site out! I think I've been there a couple of times, but I'll look deeper into it.
And yeah, I've been desperately wanting to write music for years. I guess 24 is a little late to get started, but I've got nothing but time on my hands these days, and I wanna write so bad.

Check out online guitar sites such as UltimateGuitar.com, guitarworld.com, search for tabs and such. That's what I did when I started out.

Thanks everybody! I'll be doing acoustic and electric, so it really works either way.

As someone who started late, much like you, I was 18, I'm 23 now, I just got the conviction to really take it to the next level, and I've found that the more you search around for tabs that match the level you're at, you find yourself finding more and more difficult ones and working on those and getting those down. There was a time where I couldn't play any songs and now I've got quite a repertoire. I've lately been playing 2-3 hours a day as well which just really takes you to the next level.
If you're willing to put the time in, you will reap the benefits.

Learn the basic chords, and scales, search out some easy songs to start out with and just play as much as you can/feel like. Always make sure that you are in tune as well, aside from the obvious reasons, it will help develop your ear for music.
Guitar lessons are overrated(at least here) because typically it's some guy in a local band that is not exactly on a Master's level. That said, you can learn anything from anyone with more experience so whichever way is easiest for you to learn. I've had one official lesson and I'm told that I'm pretty good. I prefer the self taught method.
Also, it's never too late to learn anything. I too got started a little late, mainly as a vehicle to put my words to music. I hardly ever play for anyone but I love the creative process of putting music to words, it's an amazing thing.
