Philly is greater than everybody right now... 10 wins in a row. Awwwell Braves. Atleast you still got the wildcard.
And as for TB's poor attendance... 10 cent beer night!

Carlos Marmol plays catch with Koyie Hill for a 4-out save tonight as the Cubs defeat the Giants 2-0. Randy Wells outduelled Jonathan Sanchez one night after Matt Cain and the Giants pen bested Carlos Zambrano and his relief.
Wells improves to 8-13 in his sophomore campaign on seven-and-two-thirds shutout innings, allowing a walk and six hits to go with six strikeouts. He was pulled after 91 pitches. He also was at the plate, attempting to bunt Koyie Hill from second to third, when the team scored it's lone State Farm Insurance Run. A wild pitch from Sanchez to Posey allowed Hill to advance, but Posey made an ill-advised throw to Sandoval at third. The throw ricocheted off of Hill's forearm, away from the Giants into foul territory. He scampered home easily. Wells lowered his ERA to 4.28 and now has 187.1 innings pitched with 11 team games to go. I would be surprised if Mike Quade doesn't give Wells the two starts necessary to hit 200 innings for the first time, just so the kid can have something not to beat himself up over this off-season.
Kosuke Fukudome's line drive homer to right field off of Sanchez broke the scoreless tie in the 3rd.
Marmol's save was his 34th. He recorded all 4 outs via strikeout, walking Pat Burrell while making Freddy Sanchez, Aubrey Huff, Buster Posey and finally Jose Guillen into his bitches. In 72.2 innings in 2010, Marmol has 128 strikeouts, good for 1.76/inning or 15.85 K/9. This compares to 49 bases on balls, 39 hits, and 6 hit batsmen. Only 1 of the 39 hits has been a home run, giving him a 0.12 HR/9 figure. He allows 4.8 H/9 and 6.1 BB/9, equivalent to a 1.21 WHIP.

The Braves need to right the ship and fast. There's 9 games left. 6 at home. All 9 of them should be against opponents with nothing to play for (as Philly will have clinched.)
Why can't we play the Mets again?

Congrats to the Phillies, they proved to be the dominant team, as I feared I would. I felt things would have been more interesting had we not thrown out two rookie pitchers but even if Hudson and Lowe/Jurrjens had started it's no given we would have walked away with a game.
I'm torn about the playoffs. On one hand I want to see them get the wild card but on the other, I'm tired of getting to the playoffs only to be sent packing early. At this point if we can't beat the NL best team why even bother?

It's depressing to see how fast The Cardinals fell out of the playoff hunt. Everything just stopped. Pitcher pitches good but they can't score runs. There this close to being officially done. Things do not look good for them because they can't seem to win more then two games in a row anymore.
It's a shame to have so much talent on a team and yet they couldn't finish the job.

Might a better location help? And, what is it that the Pirates are winning now? Get that 100th loss, already! We know the owners are simply taking the money and running off with it.

Nats Preesident Stan Kasten is stepping down as Nats President. Apparently he and ownership have been clashing, Kasten wants the owners to start spending some money, while the owners believe the fans will come regardless if they will put a winning product on the field.

If there was ever a time to feel sorry for Felix Hernandez, it's today. Here is his stat line from today's game against Toronto.
IP - 8.0 H - 2 ER - 1 BB - 4 SO - 5 PC-ST - 110-71
The only run he gave up was a solo HR to Jose Bautista in the first. Obviously, Blue Jays won 1-0.

To put that in perspective if they had gone 12-12 in those games they'd be a half game ahead of Cincinnati.

So, who's got a case of Pennant Fever?
(Feel free to ignore the team being referenced.)

Ahem...Pirates.
We're Number 1 (Pick)! We're Number 1 (Pick)!
At this rate, we'll have a winning home record and 100 losses in a season...

I'd really like to see him play on a team where he actually has a chance of playing a game that actually means something. The guy has some great stats, but I think his numbers are only that good because he has zero pressure to play well. Which is why I think it'd be a complete sham if he won the Cy Young award this year (well, besides his W:L ratio and IMO the inflated IP number as I think it speaks just as much for the mistrust the Mariners have in their bullpen as they have trust in Felix), but then I think it's hard to make a case for anyone else but CC Sabathia and David Price in the AL. I would've made a case for Clay Buccholz a week or two ago, but I think he's falling off a bit lately. Trevor Cahill also has impressive numbers, but like Hernandez he plays on a pretty crappy team that doesn't give him much run support. In the NL, I think Halladay has it about as locked up as you can possibly get.

Man, when Joba bombs he goes all out. Though to be fair that was his first bad game in months. And CC looked way off in the 6th.
