Cincinatti was pretty dead when Raw was there a couple weeks ago. Didn't seem that dead to me, but I was up in the nosebleeds so maybe the sound was echoing more. The Hard Dynasty got absolutely no pop whatsoever though... until Kidd almost landed on his head that is.

Anytime they do things in California, the crowd seems glazed over. Like if you walked up and spilled a drink on their heads, they wouldn't even look to see what happened. Over here in SF, we have possibly the most mark crowds in the country.

I think the crowd here in Kansas City really impressed WWE at MitB PPV which is why there is a strong rumor that we are getting the Royal Rumble as well.
Kansas City use to be a huge wrestling territory but it has been dead since the late 80s when McMahon bought them out. Not even an indy group can get going real big here although there is one group here that is actually on local tv. It's the first time a Kansas City independent wrestling company has been on local TV in over twenty years.

Chicago has one of the liveliest crowds you'll usually see. New York and Philly are up there as well. I do notice a correlation between wrestling crowds and livelier sports towns like the cities I just mentioned.

Then someone please explain why, since Albany wrestling crowds are so hot, we can't hold a friggin' sports franchise.

I'm from LA and I also don't understand the dead crowds either, I'd say it's because most of the people in attendance are probably children and their parents. So I'd say just wait until those children grow up and hopefully remain wrestling fans...we should have a rabid fan base. Of course we also have the celebrities(sigh), I hate the fact that they emphasize Hollywood too much into LA when it comes to sporting events cause if just you drive a few miles down South you'd see it's a whole different world, gritty like Philly and hard like New York. On that note, would someone like to make a donation to the "give luiscurse money to get front row tickets to LA wrestling events so they could be at least somewhat entertaining fund"

the crowds in general on smackdown seem worse I wonder if its b/c its recorded and wwe edits the crowd noise so it cant be heard on tv. Raw doesnt feel as loud lately either, but it seems they usually pump the titantron music so loud you cant hear anything but that usually.

I cannot remember exactly when it was, but the RAW in Minneapolis, MN. before WM 26 was one of the most bizarre crowds I have ever seen.

I swear the crowd was edited down for the last Smackdown. Like I saw the people yelling, but could not hear them. Every time I see this it ticks me off. The crowd reaction heightens things so unless the crowd is chanting some pretty blue stuff, I don't see many reasons to turn them off.

I also think regularity of WWE's presence has something to do with it. A Chicago crowd not only has a chance to know the wrestlers and angles from TV (like the Bloomington/Central I people), but also to know better how to respond as a crowd to a match. A group of people who get to see a live show a few times a every year as opposed to once every 12-18 months is better equipped to participate. It's not a one-way spectacle to the big-city crowds in Chicago, Toronto, NYC and Philly. It's a two-way sport-and-drama where the fans do have input into the match. Some towns just aren't as experienced in building the atmosphere, the same way that a guy like Kofi needs a better worker to have a great match, while he can stink up the joint with a lesser talent where he's in charge.

I would say most Northeast crowds are pretty good, going into cities like Montreal and Toronto.

I'd just like to be a homer and say that Detroit is traditionally a really good wrestling crowd.
Also, I'm really glad I'm not the only one that noticed how miserable that crowd was on Smackdown. It really took away from the show for me.

I don't think the problem is the crowds being dead, its the WWE writers that are completely dead to coming up with something entertaining.

Please don't lump all of California together. It's those crowds in SoCal that give our state a bad name. Crowds in the bay area and Sacramento are always hot.

I blame Smackdown's booking for the dead crowds. The last Smackdown taping I went to featured way too much filler and on-screen promos/vigenettes that just lull the crowd to sleep. You know all those crappy commercials you watch every week during WWE programming? Well, you watch them at the arena too. Everything about the WWE live experience seems fells sterile these days. There are lots of delays in the action, especially during taped shows. Also, it seems like most fans are there to cheer for one guy - either Punk, Mysterio, or Undertaker - depending on what kind of fan you are. They wait for hours through boring matches and promos they don't care about to mark out for their one guy in their match - that is, if they are still awake by the time the main event rolls around.

I've always thought Fort Lauderdale is a really silent crowd. Not even silent heat, they just seem bored.
Going against the thread a bit but Philly since the Attitude era has been pretty poor too.
