So, I was watching the NXT with CM Punk on commentary, and I noticed Layla El and Michelle McCool were both wearing Diva's titles. It seems the WWE Has ditched the historic, prestigious, WWE World Women's Wrestling Championship for the useless belts they're wearing now. I knew I just had to go complain on the internet.
I always saw the Diva's title as like an IC title for the women's division. Why would they go with it instead of the historic, prestigious one? Stupid E.
I figured La Cool would win the title for title, but I never imagined the Women's title would be retired. I thought Layla would be given the Diva's Title so she had her own belt, and Michelle would be the women's champion. But no dice. Lame.
This really takes the women's division into joke territory for me. It had been on the cusp for a while. The diva's title has always been a joke anyways. I will now refuse to aknowledge it's existance. Any time it's on TV, the pause button is being hit on my VCR.
What do you guys think about this astounding development? Hopefully, they'll resurrect the women's title again. This was the longest run for it since moolah brought it to the WWF, more than 10 years.

I think it's appropriate for the current state of Womens wrestling in WWE. The division is so uninspired I think it's probably a good thing that the connection to when the title actually mattered is lost and if WWE ever gets back on point they can always bring it back, but right now between the Divas and Tag Teams I think they only have a Title belt to represent them out of obligation now over any actual interest. It's sad to see the Womens Title go but it's hard to care or even be surprised at the way things have been for them.

Historic? Prestigious? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I for one will not see a title held but such stalwarts as Sable, The Kat, Hervina and Stephanie McMahon besmirched in such a manner! Good day sir!

It also doesn't help the division that in a unification match between Melina's Diva's Championship and Layla's Women's Championship, the person to unify the belts was the holder of neither.

It had some good champions but it also had decades of being inactive, and former champions including Harvey Wippleman in drag, and Debra and Miss Kitty competeting in Bra and Panties, Evening Gown, Swimming Pool and Mud Matches.
The Diva's title is a fresh start and, while I'm not too happy about it, I don't really think it's that much of a negative. And I'm a fan of the Women's Division generally.

They should of done a three way. It would of made more sense.

If that makes you shocked, don't go on WWE's title history site and read about the tag belts.

The tag thing could be argued that the new ones came into being after the brand split and maybe after the name change to WWE (plus they were called the WWE Tag Team Titles where the others were just the World Tag Titles) thus their lineage goes on.

THE WOMEN'S TITLE MAY NOT BE "PRESTIGIOUS" BUT AT LEAST IT LOOKED LIKE A REAL TITLE BELT, AND DOES NOT LOOK like it was designed by Paris Hilton

They call them Divas not women and have done so for a long time, so it makes sense that they would keep the Divas title when they unified them.
Not saying I agree with the decision, but it makes sense.

That's the problem... YOU saw it that way. The WWE never saw it that way nor did they ever try to present it that way.

Since they were unified, the Diva's belt now contains the lineage of the Women's title. It hasn't gone anywhere, it's been renamed so to speak to more appropriately describe what it currently represents.

Ever since this happened people have been talking about the "prestigious Women's Title" but has anyone looked at said "prestigious" title history?
-Title created in 1983 for Fabulous Moolah, WWF claims that she's held that title for 25+ years despite the fact that: A) That title was brand new, she had held the NWA Women's Title B) She had lost and regained the NWA Women's title NUMEROUS times in that 25+ years
- Title hits it's peak when it was feuded over by Lelani Kai and Wendi Richter leading up to WM I.
- Richter is screwed out of the title in 1985 and bounces around for a few years before being quietly retired in 1990 when Rockin' Robin left the WWF.
- Title revived in 1993, and is mainly held by Alundra Blaze before she leaves for WCW and throws the title in the garbage
- Title revived in 1998, and goes until 2001. Some champions during this time include Sable, Miss Kitty, Debra, Harvey Whippleman, and Stephanie McMahon contesting the title in such classic matches like Evening Gown Matches, Pudding Matches, Jello Matches, and more.
- Title remains inactive for most of 2001, before being reactivated at Survivor Series 2001 when Trish wins he first of 7 titles. I will admit, during this peroid Women's wrestling did get pretty good.
- 2006, Trish and Lita retire and the title becomes an afterthought at best, and a joke at worst before being retired in 2010.
Seriously folks, it was never that prestigious

This man deserves some sort of reward. Perhaps a title belt? I hear the Women's Title is available....

Divas is easier to copyright than the generic "Women's" label.
