Since when did WWE start adding a musical score to live in-ring promos? In this past Friday's (9/24) episode of Smackdown (the first I've seen in a long time), while Kane was giving his "challenge to the Undertaker" promo at the end, there was music playing in the background (like you would find in a movie). I don't know if the music was playing live in the arena, and Kane just managed to give his speech in perfect time with the music cues, or if it was added in for the TV broadcast. It was surreal, to say the least.

I'm only okay with this if it leads to squash matches being booked to synch perfectly with Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf".

I think that's just a Kane thing. Like how he has the red lights and theme music in the background whenever he's shown backstage.

The earliest I recall them doing it was the Matt/Jeff feud leading to Mania 25.

Is the music playing in the arena? If so, Kane nails the timing of certain parts in the song.

It's added to make Kane's bland promos seem entertaining. Still doesn't work to me though.

It's not the first time they did it, thinking back to the "Brother Love Show".

We need an all singing all dancing promo episode. Why not go all out, and have a Musical episode of Raw? If Oz was able to pull it off, I'm sure WWE an make it work.

Who wants to see a wrestling match reduced to a cheesy musical number anyway?

TNA had an awesome moment once where Jeff Hardy had won the match and they cut to a series of promo's in the back with Hardy's music still playing. It gave off a really awesome vibe. I was hoping it was something TNA would do more of, but no.

Promos are fine... don't touch the wrestling. Agreed, BUT, it can be done in a fun and funny (both intentional and unintentional, I'm sure) way that doesn't interfere with the actual matches and storylines themselves. I mean, they've put out Wrestlemania: The Album before, with the Undertaker singing a song, Bret singing a love song and Randy Savage rapping about the Solar System. It can be a one-off show, and it doesn't have to be ALL singing and dancing. Even though I've never seen Glee in my life, from what I know of the program, it seems like it would fit in well for lots of segments of a guest-hosting appearance. Compared to some of the other stuff they've done which has completely broken kayfabe and cut down the fourth wall, it needn't be THAT off-kilter. And I think it could be potentially very 'Crap Forum Post-Worthy (I could see fans getting a lot of mileage off of the wackiness!).

I was at the show in Corpus Christi, and the music played in the arena during the Kane promo. It kept us from otherwise booing the segment, I guess.

Yeah this isn't the first time they've done it, they use to do it in the early '90s too. The same goes for "special lighting", like when Sheamus is in the ring you'll see green lighting with his Celtic cross logo. Same goes for John Morrison and his psychedelic colors.
With the WWE going back to an early '90s state of mind, it's no surprise to see these things back. Now if only managers and tag teams would make a comeback.
