What a weird rumor this is. or was. www.1up.com/news/rumors-apple-buyout-sonyRumors that began this weekend of Apple looking to buy Sony drove the Japanese company's share prices up Monday, according to Reuters. The report notes that trading volume was at its highest since the end of July. The source of the speculation is this Barron's report from Saturday that Apple "could be contemplating a big acquisition." Barron's quoted Apple CEO Steve Jobs as saying "We would like to continue to keep our powder dry, because we do feel that there are one or more strategic opportunities in the future." The three companies mentioned as potential targets (by the reporter, not Jobs) were Adobe, Disney, and Sony. A Sony spokesperson responded to questions about the story with "We cannot comment on rumors or speculation." Reuters further notes that Sony just recently joined with Apple competitor Google on a line of televisions as evidence against a possible merger. Update: In the time since this article was originally written, Sony stocks have fallen back down as buyout rumors proved to be unsubstantiated, with the original reporter stating that the Sony target was "pure speculation." We apologize for the potentially misleading headline. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dont think this one is gonna happen boys.

Apple buying Disney? Apple couldn't afford Disney.

Apple buying Disney? Apple couldn't afford Disney. The only advantage they would have in that situation is that Steve Jobs is the single largest Disney Shareholder.

Doesn't Adobe make Flash now? It was Macromedia, and I had heard Adobe bought them. So if Apple buys Adobe, will all their devices get a Flash app?

That's most likely why they'd want Adobe, the only one of those companies they could realistically take over.

Not that a contentious relationship has stopped takeovers before, Jobs has proven over and over again he is a petulant child with his opinions but I don't see Adobe selling out to Apple of all companies, especially given how much their products have been derided and ignored by the Apple faithful, and why the Android OS has really taken off this year and will surpass Apple iOS by the end of next year.
Surely a strategic relationship with Google and Microsoft is a much better and safer option, especially given the higher quality hardware and actual support for web standards and freedom for developers.
