Jesus this is yet another reason why college athletes should be paid something. They bring in millions of dolars to the athletic department, let them get a piece of the pie so we won't have incidesnts like the Bush and now the Newton one.

This is all just too great. It is freaking amazing. Why is it Freaking amaizing? Because they are doing thier job to crack down on signing bonuses or because it takes out one more big boy so the white knights can slay the BCS?

As Jim Rome just said, it would make a fine movie.

Except that they are and are supposed to be student athletes. Personally I feel that ease of academic admissions and a teams overall GPA should be accounted in the computerized rankings. The harder a school is to admitted into the more favorable the factor toward the ratings. Ditto for team GPA. Obviously wins and loses should count the most but I think academic achievement should count for a lot more than it currently does in college football.

Poor Auburn...If Cam gets set on the bench, Tracey Wolfson is reporting that his backup has had a bum knee since spring training...

I will say that the college football schools should stop selling individual players jerseys unless they plan on compensating the players for those. That is all the players should legitamately get if it happens they should be paid.

Like Herr Hund said, this is just quality entertainment. I'm just sitting back, with my proverbial bag of popcorn and watching things unfold.

Despite the recent allegations and several "no comments" from the Auburn athletic department on quarterback Cam Newton's status, the Auburn Bureau states that he is expected to start this weekend.

Paying student atheltes is a fools erand. If you pay Football players than you have to pay women's lacross players and by the end of it the university can't afford to pay the light bill. They should be allowed a larger stipend absolutely. $30 isn't going to buy a 300+lbs linebacker over a holliday weekend. But paying them like NFL players is foolish and sets an unreachable fiscal president

Scholarship athletes are paid a ton. Texas Tech is 35K a year for full class and room and board. Depending on the school it can go up dramatically.

And onto other non-Cam Newton news, Turner Gill returns to his alma mater as Kansas visits No. 8 Nebraska.
Sorry, Turner, but.......
We're gonna destroy you.
(God, I wish this was in NCAA Football 11. It would give me goosebumps every time.)

Ok I'll bite. Good idea but again the rest of the sports would love a slice of the sure fire huge proffit difference between a volleyball jersey and a Cam Newton jersey. Is it more fair to give the football players a cut of the licencing rights? Sure. But the University that reaps the money made off a Cam Newton jersey is also providing him a $120,000 education, room and board so they aren't exactly making money hand over fist because they are giving away education billets that could be for students who'd actually be paying for thier educations. That is not just football either. Volleyball, basketball, hockey, baseball, swimming, lacross, wrestling all give scholarships. I could not give you an exact number but lets say that a major university has a total enrollment of 15,000 at the cost of $120,000 for a 4 year degree. Subtract from that the 300 or so that are on scholarship for athletics alone. 300 off of 15,000 dosn't sound like much until you total the money they do not take in because they give those scholarships. The University still has to pay the light bill, the water, run the dinning halls, keep the grounds, maintain buildings oh and pay teachers who actually perform the single most important funstion in higher education.

Then you don't sell individual jerseys. You just sell team jerseys. You're making money specifically off of player and then you expect the athlete not to be bothered by that.
