Exactly. I mean if your good enough to get a football scholarship to receive a free education that's payment enough in my mind. If your good enough to get drafted so be it, but other wise your getting a degree that can help in the rest of your life for the cost of nothing or little.

I really hate Idaho's field, it looks like it belongs in the Arena League.

I'm for smaller stipends for athletes, although I seriously doubt that that'd stop boosters from giving handouts to them. If you start OK'ing cash payments as it is, well, forget any semblance of Parity and the likelihood that smaller schools might get any big-name athletes.
That said, money for athletics for most universities doesn't come from the same pool as the rest of the university. Most major athletic departments run off foundations that are fueled largely by boosters and profits from revenue-producing sports. For the most part, the athletics and academics don't interact, they run pretty much as individual businesses.
At least, that's the way it worked when I studied sports economics a few years back.

Right. I think the only place they really interact is in the academic tutoring department that most major programs have.

Right. I think the only place they really interact is in the academic tutoring department that most major programs have. When I went to school, back at Oklahoma State, athletes had their own tutoring service. I'd imagine it'd be the same at larger schools than that. So even then they're kept apart in most major programs.

So even then they're kept apart in most major programs. That's what I'm talking about. I have a friend who works for the University of Wisconsin's student athlete tutoring department and its run by the AD in that all of the staff on the academic end are part of the AD. However the torturing staff and there direct supervisors are connected to the academic schools that their students are in. So they act as the link between the two branches.

Cam's Dad is trying to take the bullet for his kid here. A source told the Atlanta Georgia Constitution that Cecil admitted to NCAA officials today that he did in fact discuss money with Mississippi State, but Cam and his Mother knew nothing about it.

You know damn well the top kids are not here for an education. If you don't sell individual jerseys and just sell the team jersey, they would have nothing to complain about because you are advertising the school, not the player. Someone once said "When I look out there, I see a million people wearing my my jersey and yet I don't see a damn cent of that".

If you're two years away from being a millionaire I have no issue with you being poor for that period of time. And before anyone uses they "what if they have a football career ending injury?" line about compensating them in school I say then maybe they should have taken advantage of the wonderful gift of a nearly free education. If they didn't to bad. But that was their choice not to value education as well as athletics.

If someone had wanted to exploit my talents such as they are for a four year education at Texas A&M I would not complain about them selling my jersey in the student store at the footlocker in the mall. Student Athelete. Student comes before and always should come before "Athelete" in that phrase

I still think that's a load of crap. Cam probably knew the entire time. Even if he admits to this, isn't Cam and Auburn still in hot water?

I don't believe for a second that Mississippi St refuses to pay, and then they don't ask Auburn for any money. I also don't believe that Cam had no idea what was going on.

Student Athelete. Student comes before and always should come before "Athelete" in that phrase While I agree that athletes should be getting royalty checks or NFL-lite salaries, it'd be wrong to act like no students get money on the academic side. Graduate students often get stipends from the university, and I got paid for one of my student activities (writing for the campus newspaper). These amounts aren't huge by any means (I doubt I could eat lunch for the amount I was paid per story by the college paper), but the student part doesn't mean the university never cuts them a check, even if they already do have scholarships. That's why I'd support the idea for stipends. Nothing huge, but something small wouldn't be completely unjustified.

Cecil..........by trying to cover your son's ass..............you doomed him because in the NCAA regulations, your son is still inelligible.

The NCAA ended Dez Bryant's college career for allegations not half as bad as this. If there is something to this (and that's looking much more like a sure thing) and they don't act against Cam it will just show how big of a joke they are as a regulatory agency.
