With all due respect, a site I've never heard of giving a ranking on something that's completely and totally subjective to any one listener is far from a big deal. Fairly quick.
The album may or may not be good, but Kanye's still a complete jackass.

The way he conducts himself in public just really taints his work for me. It's a shame really.

Jackass or not, good reviews or bad reviews, IMO the dude is a fantastic rapper. I'll definitely be picking this up

I stopped reading Pitchfork's reviews a long time ago...It seems I always disagreed with them, whether it was positive or negative.Musically,I'm a fan of Kanye and I've only heard a few songs thus far,but a 10.0?Funny guys.I totally believe they scored it that for shits and giggles.Again,I've only heard a few songs off the album thus far,but the ones I heard really weren't that great.I can't tell you how annoyed I was with that sample of "Woods" by Bon Iver he uses in one of the songs..it SO doesn't make sense/fit!

Quick background for people who don't know about Pitchfork: it's one of the most influential music sites in existence right now, if not the most influential. (I just checked something on Alexa -- Pitchfork is the 2,770th most visited site on the Internet while Rolling Stone, a famous equivalent, is at 3,686.) It's broken a ton of indie rock bands--Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend, among 'em--and pulls in a shit-ton of traffic. It's also all about being rigorously opionated, which is one of the reasons why the site is so popular.

Every album is a 10 to someone. What a gay fish.

I'm a big fan of Kanye despite his dickish tendencies and I don't think this album deserves a damn 10.

Maybe Pitchfork just thought the album was the best album of all time.
OF ALL. TIME.
incidently, who the hell are Pitchfork?

I actually know several people who, while they dont take Pitchfork's word as Gospel, are always trying out well reviewed music from the site, and have stumbled upon a ton of new music that they now love. Me, not being a big music guy, hasnt, but the thread title drew me in. Point is, I dont think the site should just be dismissed as a no-name, since it is a rather popular and, at least in some circles, respected site.

As much as Kanye the person irritates me it has nothing to do with the quality of his music. I mean, Dave Mustaine and Glen Danzig can be pricks too but I still love "Holy Wars" and "Sistinas."
As far as the review, any time any publication gives it's highest score one time in eight years it does mean something. SOMEONE thinks this album is a classic to be at least.

Or got paid enough money to think it is a classic Seriously, i wouldn't trust those so called "professional" websites. They make money through advertisement, mostly ads from the record labels. Just like the music charts are sometimes faked to push certain artits, reviews can be used to push them too And when i think about how many scandals there have been about paid reviews in the video gaming scene alone and stories about publishers getting furious over bad reviews and threaten with lawsuits, i wouldn't take them too serious.

A website would not give a 10 to an album they did not like, they would give it like an 8.3 or something.
Let me just say, I have listened to it, and it is amazing. Best album from a mainstream artist in a very long time.

Rich Dork Media.
The website must have been hacked. Pitch Fork only reserves perfect 10's for Radiohead. Seriously though. That place is pretty pretentious.
I don't really understand the "He's a dick so I don't like his music" thing. Michael Jackson had a ton of issues but I still like the music he made.

Pitchfork somehow thinks that indie rock and mainstream hiphop and pop are tied in together. They'll have some review of an obscure indie rock band right next to a review of Lil Wayne's latest and stuff like that I do not understand. I always thought of that site as a site for alternative rock bands so why do they praise stuff like Kanye West on there I have no idea.
