So I just got back from an interview which was actually 4 interviews in a row in a span of 2 hours (for the same job). My problem with this, its only a TEMPORARY JOB and is only part time. Is the screening process really that important for a temporary job that won't be there come January. On the bright side I did get the job.

Congrats.
And there is a lot of unemployed people out there... plus, with seasonal jobs there is a chance they may keep you on for a longer run.

Well....
1. All Wal-Mart positions (Minus Managers) are "Part Time" that's how they can get away with little to no benefits and still be a successful company
2. Wal Mart does have a history of keeping a good amount of it's seasonal staff if the individual store can handle them.

If you're a good worker and talk to the right people, then you shouldn't have a problem staying on.
But good luck getting full time. I was fortunate to start shortly before they started hiring only part time. Every once in a while a requisition (as they call it) will open up for full time, but that's pretty rare.

Went on an interview last week. the interviewer had me there for about an hour, told me about all his plans, my goals, asked what I knew about the company, my abilities, all the regular nonsense. The pay was right around what I was looking for. As far as I could tell, it seemed to have gone very well. A woman interviewed for the same job before me, and was only in there for 20 minutes. This interview was last Wednesday. I still have not heard back for the second interview, I hope I hear some news by tomorrow. Being unemployed is really starting to get to me

I applied for the same job here where I live. I got 1 phone interview and they never called me back after that. I was actually dissapointed because a) I was looking for extra money before Christmas and b) all she asked for was my availability which is 24/7 so I'm not sure what the problem was.
Regardless, congrats and I hope they're able to keep you on after January....

Being unemployed is really starting to get to me I would call them and ask if the position has been filled or if they are still considering applicants. This has gotten me two jobs in the past because they thought it showed desire and initiative.
