Being that the five year anniversary of Eddie's death is near, I recently thought of something and I remember reading about this months ago, as well as recently. I read that if Eddie Guerrero didn't die, he was supposed to win the world title from Batista on either Smackdown or a house show, one of the reasons being that Batista was injured. What I also read was that there were plans for Eddie to do a crossbrand feud with Shawn Michaels to lead into Wrestlemania, which I thought would have been interesting, feud-wise and match-wise. I know that Eddie was supposed to take part in that RAW vs Smackdown match at Survivor Series, but Randy Orton took his spot after his untimely death.
Which also reminds me, weren't there plans for a buried alive match between Orton and Undertaker at Survivor Series? Was that to be saved until Armageddon? I wonder if that match would have been the ultimate blowoff but I wonder this. If there were to have been said match, I wonder if sometime prior to Survivor Series, Undertaker was supposed to return and challenge Orton to a Buried Alive match. Eddie died I believe two weeks before Survivor Series, so it is possible that Undertaker could have returned the following Smackdown.
Just wondering. Only the bookers would probably know the actual details.

Orton was supposed to win the Triple Threat match. Both he and Batista have given interviews and said as much.

I'm willing to bet that Eddie was supposed to face Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania. Batista was dropping the title to Eddie due to injury and they already had Mysterio booked to win the Rumble. When Eddie died, they talked about changing the ending to the Rumble match so Mysterio didn't win but ultimately went with him winning and they threw Orton into the three way dance. I don't see any other reason for Mysterio to win other than for him to have faced Eddie.

The rumor I always heard was that he was going to turn heel and face HBK at WrestleMania. I'm kinda glad he turned face right before he died. We got to see fun loving, happy Eddie, not the sadistic, child stealing heel we had seen in the previous months.

I always thought he was scheduled to win the belt but I think it made more sense for Orton to win it since he wasn't on the Survivor Series team. But then who would Orton have defended against? And would Batista have been replaced on team Smackdown! and gone into surgery straight away?
I still maintain that Rey would have won the belt at Mania regardless of Eddie's death, he was the main contender at that point in my eyes. Seriously think about it who else on Smackdown! was walking out with the belt at that Mania?
Batista: Injured Orton: Champion Kennedy: Not ready Lashley: Not ready JBL: Been there done that Angle: Probably wouldn't have been in the picture Eddie: Still a heel probably Undertaker: Possibly the biggest contender but Orton Taker had already been done to death, assuming Orton was walking into Mania as Champ.
And yes I think Eddie vs. HBK would have been what I booked for that Mania, If it was in WWE's plans I don't know.

I really don't think Eddie fully turned face. There was no real end to his feud/friendship with Batista. I was expecting Orton to win and Eddie to absolutely destroy Batista with a chair or other weapons, and this would be a reason for Batista to get his surgery done. I've read about Eddie/HBK program going into mania, but I still saw Mysterio winning the rumble and beating Eddie for the title. I think that makes more sense than Eddie/HBK. Maybe after the Mysterio feud, he feuds with Batista to end that for good, and then gets drafted to Raw to feud with HBK (but then would DX have come back??) So many possibilities.

I thought he was gonna win the title, and I was so confident he was gonna win, I picked him for my WWE Fantasy team, if anyone remembers that. I didn't think Orton was gonna win, as it seemed he wasn't ready, and they were running with the angle that Eddie had turned babyface again and was friends with Batista, but there were small hints here and there he was gonna turn heel.
Since Batista was injured, I predicted that they would payoff the angle early by having Eddie screw over Batista, hurt him, and then take his belt.
I did hear the rumour of HBK vs Eddie Guerrero that year, which probably could have happened, as the Guerrero/Batista match would have probably come about at SummerSlam that year, to pay off that entire angle of Eddie injuring Batista.

At the time, Eddie was "best friends" with Batista, but kept screwing him over behind his back, IIRC.

They said Orton winning the belt would have been the outcome, but also, Orton was feuding with Undertaker at the time, or going to feud with him, and I felt that if Eddie had the belt, he could have defended it against a number of other people, instead of having Orton vs Undertaker. Because, with Batista gone, Eddie didn't have any proper angle at the time. He could have gone back with Mysterio though I guess, but I think Eddie as the heel champion against a crop of babyface challengers would have been better then Orton with the belt against one challenger.
