I know many of the PPVs are released on Blu Ray, but I'm talking more like the recent Chris Jericho set, the "early days of Raw" set, etc. I would kill to have these kinds of things on Blu Ray -- and as a general rule, I feel like I'm "wasting potential" when I buy anything on DVD now that I've made the jump to Blu Ray. It's like having a Maserati and using it to drive around town to get groceries. I know the old match footage wouldn't be hi-def, but they could do so with the documentary stuff and the interviews and such. So why don't they?
Or... do they, and I just missed it?

i had no idea we got all those Blu-ray's over here!, damn!, that's brilliant! sorry America Well until the end of the year only Best Buy can sell WWE Blu Rays in the US. Luckilly that ends in January. The average PPV like Hell in a Cell doesn't really need to be on Blu yet, but they damn well better get to work on using unedited footage from the Attitude Era on Blu Ray. Remember this well kids, WWE DOES NOT have to blur that logo anymore, don't let anyone tell you differently, and I think we'll really start seeing that as they push Blu's with more archival footage.

In America, Best Buy has it "exclusively" for like 3 months, then the BR's get released into other stores.
To be honest, I've been underwhelmed with BD special features for PPV's. I don't want whole shows as much as "the best moments leading up to...".

Huh. That makes sense, I was wondering why nobody else had Mania on BR. Good to know

This is huge news, since when and why didn't I know before!? (Granted, in the UK, they've never had to on the old tagged classics stuff we get, but its annoying when we get the same WWE produced dvds with it)

The majority of their tape content is not in high def. Plus, I think they just want to put money into blurays that people would most likely buy, rather than wasteing it on a bluray release of whatever that throwaway PPV was in September. Remember this well kids, WWE DOES NOT have to blur that logo anymore, don't let anyone tell you differently, and I think we'll really start seeing that as they push Blu's with more archival footage. Where have you heard this? Maybe that's why they are marketing the old WWF 80's and early 90's logos on the "Old School" t-shirts. Hell, they even listed them as "WWF" shirts!

And can I ask where you heard that? Because I have a good friend who does "independent contractor" work for WWE doing the blurring on archive footage, and she says she still has a job.

My understanding is they can use the old school block letter logo. Not the scratch logo. Just what I've heard, can't back it up factually.

The majority of their tape content is not in high def. This, because they shot on video not film, so there's no more resolution beyond what is on DVD. Too bad they didn't try to shoot any of their PPVs on film. It would be great if some of the classic events were shot on film and could look incredible on blu ray (WM III, etc), but that would have been exorbitantly expensive and probably impractical due to lighting, reel changes, film cost, etc. One thing they could take advantage of is using Blu Ray to more practically market some of their stuff. Like release whole years of Superstars, Wrestling Challenge, Prime Time, etc., with 7x a dual layer DVD's worth of SD content on a dual layer Blu Ray disc, but that's still kind of uncharted territory.

I know that there were DVDs of Wrestlemania and Summerslam from that year, but what were the other 2 DVD releases? Anyway, I have been thinking of this lately. It reminds me of this cycle. Basically, the first WWE Blu-Ray release was Wrestlemania XXIV, the second was I believe Wrestlemania 25, but this year, the Blu-Ray releases are of the more important PPV events, as well as the latest John Cena release and the Greatest Matches of 2009-2010. Just like how back in 2000, the WWF put out DVDs of the bigger events, like Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, King of the Ring, Summerslam, and Survivor Series. The rest were all just on VHS. Then came 2001, when most of the PPVs were released on DVD, with the exception of No Way Out and Insurrexxion. In my own perspective, I am still on the fence about getting some of the Blu-Ray releases. I still kind of like watching regular DVD and do like to share some of them with people, but then I also kind of want to check them out in high-def. But at the end of the day, it's up to me as to what format I want to get them in. I might even get the DVD version, as well as the Blu-Ray version for all I know.

Stone Cold: Hell Yeah, and The Rock: The People's Champ. BTW Guys, I went a little overboard with that blurring thing. I shouldn't have said it the way I did. The story I heard was WWE blurs the logo not because they have to, but as a way to keep the Panda's off their back. I'm not 100% certain if thats true or not. I apologize, I was really tired and about to go to bed when I wrote that. I do know that the panda's DO NOT have the exclusive rights to the WWF initials though, that IS true, and I have proof. From a news article on the WWE Corporate site. "Commenting on the decision, McDevitt noted that the Court of Appeals of England expressly stated that The Funds had not shown any damage whatsoever caused them by the sale of videogames and that The Funds did not have exclusive rights to the initials “WWF.” “We have said all along that The Funds have not, and could not, be damaged by anything my client has ever done, and it is a matter of record that The Funds have never come forth with proof of any monetary damage,” said McDevitt. corporate.wwe.com/news/2003/2003_04_17.jspSo again, I'm sorry for just blurting that out like that.

Because Vince doesn't know what Blu-Ray is.
