1. The Barrett/Cena storyline DIDN'T need the belt, but now that Barrett has the opportunity, he should win it.
It helps establish Barrett as main eventer and it also adds to the mini story of the WWE lockerroom not liking Cena as he help Barrett even if he didn't want/mean to, maybe slides a chair into the ring a BR to try and get it to Orton, but Wade gets.
2. If Orton wins, who does he face at Survivor Series? Miz? Punk?
With Barrett winning if gives Orton a rematch, which he could lose again by screwy ways. Maybe The GM bans EVERYONE from ringside, the Ref gets bump, Barrett waves for someone to comeout from the back and it's Cena in a Ref shirt, Cena counts too slow, Orton kicks out, Barrett is yelling a Cena Orton hits an RKO on Barrett, Cena again doesn't know what to do, so he counts slow, Barrett kicks out Orton yells at Cena and then BOOM! RKO on Cena, but Orton then turn into Wastleand, the other Ref waks up 1.2.3.
So this gets to TLC, so with Barrett winning at BR WWE gets 2 more months of Nexus/Cena and Barrett vs. Orton.
3. The Barrett/Cena feuds can go to around Mania or even Mania if they want it too, but if Barrett loses at BR I'm trying to figure how they book it with out it getting boring. Getting the belt on Barrett can spread it out and make it alot more interesting on my opinion.
4. Ratings, yes rating. The Monday after BR is Cowboys vs. Giants, well the Cowboys aren't very good right now, they'll still get ratings. So WWE needs to have a reason to watch RAW. Orton winning? Even as an Orton fan I find that boring. Barrett winning, Cena helping, Orton going crazy, YES! that gets my attention.
Also I believe RAW is in England in 2 weeks, so well it might not help the ratings in the US, you'd think having the 1st Bristish born WWE Champion in England would get more people to watch over there.
5. Something new again. It worked with Sheamus, why not Barrett?

I think he should get it to, except for one thing: Orton won the belt exactly one month ago today. If Barrett were to win it it would severly devalue the belt.

The majority of people who watch have seen 1 day reigns before. It makes perfect sense for Barrett to go over especially if Cena is the reason he does go over. The devalue argument in regards to the belt is dead these days and has been dead for some time.

Completely agree with the OP.
Orton doesn't need the belt, where as Barrett as the champ lording it over Cena and fighting off Orton is alot more entertaining TV.
If Wade loses........then what? The story resets back a month and is far less interesting. If he wins, new and exciting times ahead.
Plus, a British WWE champ while they are in the UK would be explosive for the crowd.

Thats baloney. The majority of people who watch have seen 1 day reigns before. Who exactly are these "majority" of fans? The people from the Attitude Era are gone. The days of fans watching for decades is seemingly gone too. The fans nowadays are pretty much all new fans that don't even know who Hulk Hogan is...or even The Rock. Hell, the Rock left what, a decade ago?

I gurantee you that every single person watching is aware of Hogan and Rock, either from their parents, from WWE review like DVDs or from publications like WWE magazine or the website. They have also highlighted with Kane winning that he was a 1 day champ before, and alot will have seen that Orton reign a few years ago that lasted no time.

I need only 1 reason:
1. The belt is currently being held by Randy Orton.

I need only 1 reason: 1. Wade Barrett rules. Altered to more precisely reflect my way of thinking.

Be prepared to be disappointed, because The Viper will find a way to win.

Barrett winning would be excellent, not only because it makes sense to put the belt on the guy who steals every show, but it'd revitalise everything.
1. Orton has already had lengthy feuds with most of the main event roster of Raw. Barrett, however, has only really faced them in stable-based matches. So this way, you can get a ton of brand new feuds, rather than retreading old ground. 2. It revitalises the Nexus angle. Sure, their ranks have thinned, but now this breakaway group holds the WWE Championship. Will people step up their game to get it back? 3. It adds some extra fuel to the Barrett/Cena relationship. You think Wade's taunting is bad now? Just wait until he gets Cena to shine the belt, all the while reminding him that he used to hold this. 4. It means Raw can have a champion who can deliver a promo without. talking. like. a. monotone. robot. 5. As people have said. UK shows. You have the first ever British champion. That's money and ratings right there. 6. Orton is far more interesting (not saying much) making his way through the ranks than just standing on a lofty podium. It makes him this supposed 'predator', rather than prey. 7. It's Wade Barrett! Everyone would be talking about him! More!

I think the longest world title reign we've had in the last two years was three months. A month long title reign is proably ABOVE average at this stage.

I don't care how brief Orton's title run is, I just want Barrett to win it.
Failing that, Miz would be a nice consolation prize, but dammit I want this awesome British bastard with the title on Sunday.

Outside of the short reign argument, which frankly doesn't make much difference given how the title has been hot potatoed recently, I can't think of a single reason why Orton should retain. Which means he probably will.
