I honestly wanted it to be a tie and they both got on the team.
I really hope that either Santino or Ryder can get a push though. They're two of my favorite guys and neither of them can seem to get a needed push.
So I guess let's go Santino!

Can the guy just not wrestle at all or something? He's actually pretty good. Look up Boris Alexiev in OVW where his gimmick was a Russian Shoot Fighter that destroyed his opponents. I know he's also an accomplished Judo champion training at the Shin Bu Kan dogo. Winning his first comp before the age of 21. Here's his pic from his Judo days Anthony Carelli # Shodan Feb 18th 1990 # Competitor, Sensei # 4x Jr Canadian Champ (G & 3S) # USA Jr Champ (B)

For a guy to be booked as poorly as he is, yet to be ridiculously over is a testament to the guy's likability. Maybe they figure, "Well, we don't need to get this guy over. Let's push a guy who already is".

Ill say this much: the guy ALWAYS puts 100% into whatever he's doing, no matter how asinine it may be. He simply looks like he liked what he does.

I don't watch Superstars, so I didn't know that, but at least twice on RAW, I've been really amused by the somewhat astonished "OMG, that Cobra thing really WORKS?!" reaction from the announce team. This might actually be a new 'bit'... I can't recall anyone having a ridiculous 'mythical' finisher that turns out to actually work, as a sort of punchline. Like it! I loved King calling the move "effective". Cracked me up.

Hearing the ovation Santino got when he came out last night surprised me greatly. Then he won the match which surprised me even more greatly and the place was ecstatic that Santino is going to be on the Pay-per-view.
Santino is the most popular babyface on his team despite being booked worse than both Truth and Morrison by astronomical standards, I firmly believe that. How over would Santino be if he actually did receive the semblance of a push? I believe he could have entertaining feuds with Punk, Sheamus, or the Miz. His overness could be used to get any of these heels even more heat, or god forbid get himself more over and thus making the E more money selling his merch.

I love Ryder, but the ovation Santino got when he not only connected with the Cobra, but when the ref's hand when down for the 3, was unreal.
That was almost The Rock levels of an ovation.

See I don't think if they tried to play Santino serious, like he was any sorta actual threat, he'd be over at all.
Yeah, he excels at the comedy stuff, and people obviously love that; but you then try to present him as any serious wrestler, and you'll kill the very reason people cheer him now.

I think he can still be funny then go out a stretch the hell out of people. Start off by saying he's been training then have him win a few match by fluke soon the fans will get behind him winning (but not all the time) then they will blow their loads when he finally wins a big title.

That last bit wouldn't be PG. Eh, maybe, I'm willing to concede I could be wrong; I'm mainly thinking of the complete apathy pre him being goofy.

I wish he'd go back to being a comedic heel. He cut some of the best funny promos I've ever seen.

Even the slightest tinge of hope that we will see a return of the Honkameter someday is cause enough to get excited.

The problem is (and I think it's a big part of why the bookers haven't really been sure what to do with Santino for so long) that it wasn't WWE that decided to turn him face; it was the fans, and Santino just got too over to be booed anymore. Hell, they went as far as to pull the usual trump card of trusting wrestling fans' homophobia to keep him being booed, what with the Santina angle, and it he STILL got massively cheered.

But that's not a problem. It's another case of WWE thinking just because someone cheers a character, they have to turn him face. They did it to Piper, Cena, Austin, Rock, etc. All these guys stayed over but they were never as good as their heel characters imo. There's no reason Santino couldn't have stayed in his former character. People loved it. That's why they were cheering. Don't change him, just push him harder.

If a heel starts getting babyface pops by EVERYONE instead of heat then they cease to be a heel in my book.

Right, but why do they always have to change whatever character was getting cheered into the smiling, hand slapping "loves to have fun" babyface character? The only two they've let retain most of their original characters after turning face were Austin and Orton.
