Yeah it was only Zack Ryder and yeah it's a stupid finisher, but do you think this could be a slow start to them actually booking him to be credible? I somewhat doubt it, but I hope so. As anyone who saw his work as Boris Alexiev knows he can go in the ring, make him be able to wrestle (hell just say Kozlov has been training him in martial arts) and keep the comedy. He's way over, way more than he deserves to be, so I don't see why not

I personally hope not, as I can't stand him, but there's no denying he gets geat crowd reactions. I dunno if I could really buy him as a legit threat after 3 years of bad comedy angles, but we'll see.
Also, Ryder deserves better than jobbing to the Cobra.

I wondered the same thing and I really hope so. He's crazy over and can better than hanging around with Kozlov who's 7 levels of awful.

I doubt it, I have this horrible feeling he might be a placeholder for someone else like Kahli was.
But I do hope it is the beginning of something for him, I don;t understand why his push a couple of years back was stalled, with the honkey meter stuff and his face turn after he was getting huge reactions, and then when the guest hosts started they just faded him into backstage skits.
why was he not pushed huge? Can the guy just not wrestle at all or something?

Probably best they don't "push" him, at least not in the sense of him winning a lot of matches.
People will have fun with him winning a match because they're so used to him doing his comedy moves and failing with them. If he was built up as some sort of threat, they wouldn't really be comedy moves anymore, then it'd kill the point.

No, it was just regular old Santino. He wins with the Cobra all the time on Superstars.

I don't watch Superstars, so I didn't know that, but at least twice on RAW, I've been really amused by the somewhat astonished "OMG, that Cobra thing really WORKS?!" reaction from the announce team.
This might actually be a new 'bit'... I can't recall anyone having a ridiculous 'mythical' finisher that turns out to actually work, as a sort of punchline. Like it!

He was against Zack Ryder... the only man that loses MORE than Santino.
It was basically the exact opposite of the Mega Powers -- I'm shocked they both didn't lose somehow.

Nah, he is what he is at this point, comedy midcard guy. There's nothing wrong with that, and he's thrived with the character.
Any attempts to make him seem credible and not goofy will tank. Hard.

What kind of crappy GM who apparently really wants the best team possible to face SmackDown make Bryan/Sheamus and Santino/Ryder matches? How about Bryan/Ryder and Sheamus/Santino instead? Stuff like that really gets me.

All I think this means is that Santino will get used on Raw a little more often but who knows.

Stuff like that really gets me. Maybe The GM sees the awesomeness that both Santino and Ryder possess, and wants to give them a chance to unlock their potential on a big stage. Or he knew the winner is just a placeholder untill Cena/HHH takes their spot.

I absolutely agree with what someone just said...........Santino will receive a vicious beat down next week and someone will take his place. Not sure who though.

I know Santino and Zack are the comedy jobbers of RAW for their respective alignments but it still hurt seeing Zack lose to him.
And there's a pretty good reason Santino isn't given a push. He's an awful wrestler. Some people have seen clips of him with his killer Russian gimmick in OVW and thinks he's this underutilized talent. But they fail to realize most of his matches were like twenty seconds long. A good example of Paul Heyman hiding weaknesses. Even Brian Kendrick mentioned in his shoot interview.
"Santino is a lousy wrestler, he knows this, but he's still a lot of fun to wrestle against."

Now Santino isn't my cup of tea as a comedy wrestler, but he does his part inside the wrestling business for the WWE. As a comedian that a lot of people laugh at, can have an amusing match I'm sure.
I doubt he'll ever go anywhere else than that. And he doesn't need to go anywhere else.

What I don't understand is, if he is an awful wrestler, why haven't wwe had him down in FCW for the last two years honing his wrestling skills, he could still have appeared on mondays doing his skits to keep him in the public eye. With this promo skills and natural charisma he only has to be a halfway decent wrestler.
