Freakin byes in a tourney. Its stupid why the hell does a double countout mean a bye for the other guy? ITs not fair to everyone else. Honestly anyone with common sense would have restarted the damn match

Yeah, I've never been fond of them myself.

As it benefited a heel, I guess you're supposed to hate it... but, yeah, kayfabe wise, it makes no sense. There are so many options that don't end with "give the other guy a bye."

Absolutely hate them. It's just an excuse to have more promos and less matches.

I'm trying to figure out why they did it tonight? Did they think it would build up the final match better if Sheamus only fought once and JoMo fought twice and was hurt? Either way Zeke got screwed. He should be king right now. Well maybe not but still.

I was really looking forward to a Zeke vs. Sheamus match. Not exactly sure what the reasoning was for making it a double countout.

He should be king right now. Well maybe not but still. Because Sheamus is a heel and so must have an unfair advantage to allow him to triumph over the face John Morrison. I don't like it (the bye) but it's not rocket science.

WWF's always had a track record of letting monster heels get byes in tournaments, only to lose to the eventual babyface tourny winner, going back to One Man Gang getting a buy to the Semi's in the Wrestlemania IV World Title tournament (lost to Randy Savage...hell, let's not forget DiBiase buying his way to the finals), and Bam Bam getting a bye to face Bret Hart in the KotR '93 finals.

but they also result in giving the guys who were counted out or double dq'ed an unearned second chance. Only if you consider overtime an unearned chance for both teams in a football game, or whatever.

Only if you consider overtime an unearned chance for both teams in a football game, or whatever. wrestling does not follow the same rules as football. In wrestling it's essentially possible for both participants in a match to lose. Overtime in pro wrestling would be if they went to a time limit draw then had five or ten minutes added, which of course does happen.

It's cheap heel heat. Heels always are the ones who benefit from a bye.

My impression is that it was more about keeping JoMo more viable moving forward -- they didn't play up the 'advantage' card for Sheamus so much as to make it central to the story of him winning.
JoMo was injured and worn out from having to wrestle the extra match, puts on a great show with Sheamus and comes up just short. The idea is if he didn't get injured and didn't have the extra match then he was the better man, so he looks stronger going forward.

I didn't actually see that PPV, but from what I understand if they did want to screw with Austin they missed a chance. His opponent would have been X-Pac or Regal I believe. Those two went to a DCO. The match was supposed to be restarted but X-Pac ignored that. He could have been said to have forfeited the match by refusing to return to the ring. Or have been counted out again.
