I'm glad they didn't find him "Not Guilty due to insanity"
He tried singing in court to seem crazy, and it was total BS.
I hope he gets life in prison and never gets a chance to ever be around another child again.

It took this long to finish this case? Gotta love the legal system, eh?

How... could anyone defend him? That's horrible. Hope he rots in hell. He should live a life in a torturous prison.

How... could anyone defend him? Because that is how an adversarial justice system works. I haven't followed the case at all, really, but there's no way insanity would have worked here. The requirements for that defense are so strict and this was drawn out over such a long time. It only works in a fraction of a percent of cases, and even then it only results in a stay in an insane asylum rather than prison. As for the length of time...courts have lots of work to do. Better they take awhile and get things right rather than rush things and get things wrong (which happens anyway)

Ass should have be executed. Lived in SLC when all this happened.

In a matter of speaking, his ass IS gonna be executed.... I imagine he's going to be in protective custody. Other prisoners don't take kindly to child rapists and wouldn't think twice about killing this guy.

Ass should have be executed. Lived in SLC when all this happened. Unconstitutional to execute for non-homicide crimes.

I'm sort of surprised people still use the insanity defense. I know it's popular on TV and in movies but, in RL, insanity gets you more time behind bars than most convictions, it's just in a mental hospital instead of prison.

Generally, the insanity defense is the best the defense can muster when the evidence is so heavy, they can't deny the accused's involvement, but they can offer an explanation for it.

Can anyone sum up the case, I remember the name but not what happened. Was she the one kidnapped by the two mormons 8 years ago?

Stolen out of her bedroom, raped in the name of god, finally found alive (surprisingly, since most of the time the kids end up dead before being found in cases like that).

True, but a lot of states don't even allow it, and when they do, even a not-guilty verdict due to it would end with the accused locked away for a long time.
