I can't be the only person here who loves/loved this show.
May not be safe for work, some light cussin'.

If it isn't the best sci-fi show ever, it certainly is up there, an is most definitely my favorite. I'm surprised we've gone this far without cursing the name of the FOX network.

Excellant show,
However. . .I think the fact it was cancelled much too early has led to it been overated by some. I often see polls where Mal Reynolds is voted as the most iconic/best sci-fi character of all time which is bullshit really when you look at all the great characters who withstood the test of time and who have remained popular for years!
Mal was great, but most iconic Sci-Fi character of all time? Nope, many non-firefly fans have never heard of the guy whereas everybody on the planet has heard of Spock, Captain Kirk, The Doctor etc.
...might have strayed off topic there!
Yeah, Firefly was awesome! Wish it could have continued.

It was awesome, though FOX messing with it hurt it tremendously. Seriously, I almost did not watch it again after the premiere because FOX deliberately ran them out of order, including running the 3rd episode first, the second episode (which was 1/2 of the actual two part premiere) second, and then the first half of the two part premiere third. I wonder how many people were driven away because of that.

As much as I love the show, its reputation does get a boost from not running too long. Some shows are great but don't quit soon enough and decline. That is what hurt ST:TNG (and conversely ST:DS9 as the producers had to split their attention between two shows, which probably is why DS9's weak seasons were early on).

How many episodes or seasons did this have? I've never watched it, but I'd feel more let down than anything if I get into it only to have it end abruptly.

Well, it was canceled in the middle of its first season. They filmed one last episode after the decision was made, though it was no finale, but it did not leave with a cliffhanger either. The movie Serenity acted more as the series finale as it was set nearly a year later, so it is more or less required viewing to conclude things. There is some talk of a sequel movie spurred on purely by DVD sales as the movie kind of flopped at the theatre (but really, it came out at a horrible time of year for a SciFi film).

So it's pretty short? And it's STILL some peoples favorite show of all time? Must be worth watching.

It's essentially the epitome of the space western, so if that is your thing, you'd probably like it.
