One time i was driving down the street at night in a really nice neighborhood, and noticed a large jar full of change near someones garbage pale. I picked it up, and cashed in. It was nearly $100

I've done it, but never personal trash, just businesses. You'd be surprised the stuff they pitch. My friend and I snagged him a killer dolly (for moving stuff) that had the bar that extended down for holding boxes broken. He bought a few cheap straps and used it later to move a couch and loveseat.
Another time, we hit up Blockbuster and stuffed his trunk with two huge garbage bags of empty DVD cases. (You know, the ones that they sell 5 for $1) He filled his bathtub with them and a whole bottle of 99 cent dish detergent and stirred them around with a mop.
And when we've moved a few times, my dad's found some insane stuff just going to get boxes. First move, K-Mart was redoing their store into a Super K-Mart. He got enough sheets of pegboard to do our garage. That crap is like $30 a sheet. We also found a Mike Piazza action figure and some hockey player in the trash at Blockbuster.
This past April when we moved again, he found a cordless phone and a CD boombox in the Family Dollar dumpster both complete and in their boxes. The cordless phone is currently in our dining room, the answering machine has some issues but that's it. The boombox has no issues whatsoever.
We found another boombox one time too, that was missing the universal cord. When we found one, the CD player had issues with most burned CDs and the radio was crappy as hell.
Then again, we used to go out on clean up day and go through whatever people set out. My bro and I got a set of enclycopedias (back when people used them) that we sold to our uncle for $10 as we already had a set at home that was like two years newer.
