This morning around 8:30, my tv died. It was a 57" Mitsubishi 1080P DLP. It gave me around 2 years of great service. It went out with a bang literally and left a strong burning odor behind. It shall be missed.

I know exactly how you feel like. It's like losing a family member.
Expect to find yourself staring at a blank screen and wondering whether there's anything good on.

I think it was the lamp that went out, it had a very loud popping sound and then a really bad burning smell. Those lamps (from what I have been told) only have so many hours on them.

I went out and replaced it after it happened. Thank goodness for my Best Buy credit card. I got a 32" LCD this time around. Its better than nothing, but I had to replace it with something.

If/when my plasma tv dies (He'll be three next summer) I'm buying a $10.00 console from goodwill. f*** technology.
I think on the box it says something about the average life span if you only watch it 6 hours a day or something, but I forget what it is.

Only 2 years old and it's broken? This Didn't you have warranty on it? 2 years is not enough for a TV like that.

If its just a lamp, you can get one for like $50-$200 depending on the model. And they're usually not that hard to replace yourself.
And they really dont make TV's like they used to. My parents have an old console TV in the basement. It's like, 35 years old or so, and still works. Picture isnt the greatest, but hell, it works

My 32" LCD 1080P died after a little over a year and a half. It made me sad, but I had got it dirt cheap so I wasn't out much. We ended up replacing it with the 47" we had planned on buying anyways, so we weren't too hard done by

Picture isnt the greatest, but hell, it works Exactly. They make things so fast and quick, AND cheap. They don't want to make a tv that lasts 35 years anymore. They found out they made a mistake(their loss not ours) so they make tvs that wear out quicker the more you watch them, so you can keep shelling out money every year. Used to be you bought a tv and that was it. If you're lucky every so many years you bought a bigger one, but now, it seems everytime you turn around they have made an advancement. 1080,3-D, blah blah blah. It's a bitch to even try to keep up with the Joneses televisions.

Oh damn, I'm sorry to hear that. Especially since my flatscreen is a couple of years old and often is on for many hours at a time. I hope mine isn't on borrowed time ...
