A & E had a hour long special about Hogan last night, about all the problems he has had and his road back to the ring in TNA. It dealt with some pretty hard hitting issues that I had no idea about. I didn't watch the whole thing as I fell asleep, but I am sure it will run again in the near future.

The girl who cuts my hair texted me saying she was watching this yesterday. She has no idea I watch wrestling. She said it was kind of interesting.

We actually saw a brief look at a TNA booking meeting...
I didn't see a big "Wheel Of Plot Twists" in the meeting, which really surprised me.

Here's some notes from another website. Not my words.
Points made:
-At the peak he was wrestling 400 times a year. Funny that only about eight of those matches were televised.
-Wrestling at his age is like running into the next room to help a choking baby.
-There was a point where he was just bouncing from strip bar to strip bar, carrying a gun, running around like a nut. He didn't know that person.
-When he was only bringing in $2,000,000 a year the family was spending $8,000,000.
-After Linda filed for divorce Hulk came home to find the house completely empty (no fixtures, clothes, etc). For three days he sat alone in the house contemplating suicide. He chugged a gallon of Captain Morgan's rum. He reached for the Xanax "And I don't mean the little ones, I mean the long sticks. In the wrestling business we call 'em 'totem poles.' I ate two of them."
-Holding the gun while staring in the mirror, for days, he kind of hypnotized himself. Laila's call snapped him out of it.
-Laila told him about this church (The Agape International Spiritual Center) and without the power of Christ he would be dead or in jail right now.
-Graziano's lawyers accused Hulk of planning the "accident."
-"Jennifer is life after life, for me." -"He wakes up and he's happy. There's a million terrible things going on but he's happy. And the most important thing to him is giving me a hug in the morning, and petting the dogs and feeding the squirrels outside. It's like watching a brand new baby." --Brooke Hogan
-TNA is the future of wrestling.
-Dixie says he's realizing that he can contribute in so many ways he was never allowed to in the past.
-I noticed that Bubba Ray was at the table for the production meetings with Hulk, Dixie and 14 other people.
-Mike Tenay going over the script at the meeting was hilarious.
-"The stuff that doesn't really matter, the legal stuff, the financial stuff, all those things used to be like tombstones, like death urges, but now that I'm being pulled by this crazy energy (TNA, Jennifer) I'm getting pulled in this unbelievable positive direction, those tombstones are more like stepping stones."
-The commercial for A&E's "The Hasselhoffs" made me sad.
-"I ran hard for a long time. In some circles I was the leader of running hard. I never wanted anyone to take my place. I never wanted anyone to be able to figure me out. I wanted to put so much distance between me and the so called Number 2 that nobody would even be able to see my tail lights."
-"The doctors tell me that if I do anything more to my back I'm going to need three surguries, and the big one of those I won't live through."
-Maybe the best part of the whole thing was Hulk talking to his doctor about needing to do the big comeback match for TNA back in January. "What if this guy slams me down, or hits me wrong, or throws me outside to the concrete floor. You're saying my back is already too compromised, I mean, what am I gonna do for a living?"
-The students at the Nastyville School Of Wrestling are never going to be anything.
-It showed him dyeing his beard black. Awesome.
-The backstage TNA footage is nice to see.
-He showed the camera guys right before he went out for the match where he keeps the razor blade in his mouth. "Thar she blows." Kayfabe just a little, Hulk, come on.
-It showed him pre-cutting the shirt to rip off. Boooooo.
-"This is about making history. This is about raising the bar to another level."
-Postscript: "Hulk and Nick Hogan settled their civil suit for an undisclosed amount. Nick resides in Los Angeles working on various charitable initiatives."
-A Bischoff and Hervey production.

As much as I dislike his current position in TNA, it does sound like he's gone through things that most people probably wouldn't bounce back from. Kudos to him for that.
Who are Laila and Jennifer?

Whoever typed this summary seems to be questioning if Hulk really worked this many dates. I'm not sure the guy understands how important house shows were in the 80s.
Sounds like a good show, and good for Hulk for Hulking up against his problems.

Sounds like a good show, and good for Hulk for Hulking up against his problems. Yeah because they were doing two shows on Sundays and probably even Saturdays as well. I wish I had saw this last night, but I'll have to look for when it's on again.

I have it DVR'd. I'm going to give it a watch either tonight or tomorrow. Sounds good to me. I believe him on the 400 matches a year, house show schedules were insanity back in the day. Almost every book I read about a wrestlers career talks about how hard it was being on the road constantly. Also, this is my 2,000th post. Yay me.

well that is odd I just posted a reply to Branimal's post and it didn't take? Oh well. Anyhoo Hogan and the entire wwf roster worked an insane amount of dates in the 80's. Bret Hart called it the "Killer Kalender" but most folks were happy to be making the great money they got for being on cards with Hogan as the star

I thought it was pretty awesome, and very emotionally affecting. But it also points out why Hogan just CAN'T make a very convincing heel at this point, and how sad it is that TNA isn't taking off thanks to all the internal problems in the company and lack of anything really "new" for Hogan to promote the hell out of. It leaves you wanting both to succeed, amd to maybe turn on a show on thursdays that'll blow your mind in a way no wrestling show has. Sadly, you know the truth before you watch this, so bleh. Good documentary though.

He gave a great interview about 8 months ago on Stern; some bits from last night were literally word for word what he said. The Howard interview was better imo.

I will never understand how you can make that much money and be broke so fast (see: every rap star 3 years after his one hit). Common sense has to start SOME TIME.
"gee.... I really HAVE to pay taxes on my 3 five million dollar homes EVERY year?"

It wasn't till Nicks accident and Linda divorcing him that he started having money problems.

I loved how he worked in a 5 hour energy plug too when he talked about what it took for him to get in the ring these days.

Who are Laila and Jennifer? She's Laila Ali, Muhammad Ali's daughter who co-hosted American Gladiators with Hulk. And Jennifer McDaniel is Hulk's fiancee.
