Even though there's like maybe 10 of us that liked them, Demolition was a case of the copy being soooooooooooo much better than the team it copied. While the Road Warriors were basically roided up power guys, Ax and Smash were actually skilled ring technicians who also could brawl with the best of them. They had excellent matches with everyone from Brain Busters to Rougeaus to even the Roadies themselves.
Show some love to Ax and Smash (maybe Crush but not to Blast).

Here comes the Ax! Here comes the Smasher!
I love their theme.
One of my favorite Demolition moments is when they took Martel out of commission in 1988 after Wrestlemania with a decapitator on from the apron to the floor.

My all time favorite tag team.
Funny story about growing up watching wrestling with my mom; she had the biggest crush on Barry Darsow due his Smash gimmick. Normal kids had moms who got hot off of Shawn Michaels or some other heart throb wrestler in the WWF at the time... but no my mom had a thing for the Repo Man himself.

I always liked Demolition too. Two guys who legitimately looked like they could kick your butt without really trying. Great promo work, great look and a very talented team.
The biggest surprise was just how short a run they had. Came in at SummerSlam 87, won their first gold at WM 4, dropped it after a year to the Busters, got it back about three months later, dropped again to Andre/Haku, got reign #3 at WM 6, dropped to the Harts, Ax left after Survivor Series and Smash became Repo Man before vanishing about a year or two on. Only three years and an amazing impression they made for what was, essentially, a Road Warriors clone.

One of my favourite old school tag teams.
And let's be real here, The Powers of Pain were far more like a Road Warriors knock off than Demolition.

One more note of appreciation, I LOVED the Hasbro Demolition tag team pack that came with the extra helmet accessory. ...my mom stole them before she moved away.

One of my favourite old school tag teams. And let's be real here, The Powers of Pain were far more like a Road Warriors knock off than Demolition. Powers of Pain are still the most oddly booked tag team of this period I think. Started as faces to go against heel Demolition, they had to do a double turn to keep the fued going when Demolition got heat, then... aside from a on-off feud with the Rockers, I don't think the E had a clue what to do with them, so they went singles with them both which turned out OK for Barbarian since he eventually got teamed with Haku. Warlord? I liked the guy at first, but boy, he slowed WAY down as he roided up and honestly, his match with the Bulldog at WM VII is still one of the most boring I ever sat through. Strange booking, to say the least.

Matt - don't think the Barbarian/Haku partnership actually happened until many years later in WCW, when Haku was Meng. I think maybe late 95 or 96 sort of time, as I'm sure they were both part of the Dungeon of Doom at some stage.
What happened was that, for whatever reason, Fuji had an auction where different managers came in for them. He sold Warlord's contract to Slick and Barbarian's to Heenan.
Seems to me that Warlord was pushed a bit harder as a singles star than Barbarian and got that cool metal belt and the 'W' staff. Warlord was like your typical SNME opponent for Hogan or the Ultimate Warrior.
Not sure what happened to Warlord after about 91. I know Barbarian went to WCW and had a title shot against Ron Simmons for the world title during that run. Not sure what he did between 93 and 95, but I'm fairly sure when he came back to WCW it was then he teamed up with Haku/Meng.

I remember seeing them at a "Superstars" taping on January 5, 1987 at now Izod Center. Of course this was original Demolation with Randy Colley as Smash.

They're pretty much my favorite tag team of all time.
It's too bad they're kinda buried in WWE history, and I doubt there will ever be a DVD for them because Vince seems to prefer LOD (or he was just bitter because of the lawsuits over the Demolition intellectual property rights).

WWE got Haku and the Barbarian first, they jerked the curtain against the Rockers at WM 7, plus I seem to recall Haku and Barbarian teaming against some jobbers prior to and right after Mania. As for Warlord, he hung around a LONG while, I know he was #30 in the Rumble in 1992, but was never seriously pushed after the Bulldog feud, maybe because of the steriod trial.

Demolition were not really much like The Road Warriors at all. Demolition were more like Metalheads who worshipped KISS, with their KISS-like facepaint.

I know they tagged in that match but were they actually a team, one who were pushed in the tag division? Like Tito Santana and Virgil frequently tagged in random matches, but they weren't a recognised team. And Dibiase and IRS tagged a few times prior to Money Inc. but until then were not really a team.
