Maybe one of the best heel turns ever when it comes to doing it in a sheer interview.
It looked like they did it in one take, that Andre had spilled some beer or something on his pink shirt - but that promo was so intense. I mean Heenan is almost breaking character calling Hulk, "Hulk" rather than calling him "Hogan." I mean Heenan really gets as dramatic as Hogan does, and its one of the times - the drama really pushed the angle. Andre, the once smiling babyface, is this stone-faced heel. (They kind of let Andre be the smiling heel later on, once he went down the card after the feud and let him cut his own promos again - but here they wanted him to be a heartless monster and it worked.)
This thing had enough heat to last a year, and create an infamous angle to get the belt off Hogan. Andre might have been near the end of his career, and would be dead in six years . . . but during 1987-88 - the man was a unbeatable massive monster. Maybe watching Wrestlemania 3 is kind of painful when you take off the childlike mark glasses with Andre struggling just to work the match - but at the time . . . IT WAS EPIC.

I remember Piper being in shock at the end. When Andre ripped Hogan's shirt and cross off, one of his fingernails scrapped Hogan's chest and drew a LITTLE blood, but Piper sold it so well, just in shock saying "Hulk... you're bleeding..."
Amazing stuff. Absolutely amazing.

Heenan was golden for his mic work on that pit, knowing no one would understand that all from Andre, Vince did a perfect move having Heenan do it, just incredible all together, gotta love WWE

Hogan looked like he just soiled himself at that point because he realized Andre was serious.

I loved the way Andre spoke, when he finally did speak.
"I'm here for one reason. To challenge you for a World Championship Match at THE wrestlemania."

It was building for weeks (Probably all shot in the same night) but week after week Andre was acting suspicious like he was about to turn. I really hopped he wouldn't but at the time(even though they'd wrestled each other many times in the early 80's when Hogan was a heel) it was the biggest match in wrestling! But what didn't make sense to me was how him & Heenan were such bitter enemies how could he join forces with him? That part never made sense to me. Then again starnger stuff has happened

It was pretty epic but it's strange that even as a kid I was wondering "Why did Hulk poke himself in the eye when Andre ripped his cross off?"

Amazing stuff. Absolutely amazing. Everybody did everything to perfection in that angle, and yes as Piper's biggest fan (true ) I put "Hulk, you're bleeding" up there as one of the best performances of his career.

Being a young mark at the time...I thought to myself there is no way Hulk Hogan could ever defeat Andre the Giant. Then my brother and I started calling Andre names whenever he was on TV. Andre had major Andre heat in our house....

What's amazing is that they were able to ratchet things up even higher with the battle royal on SNME. Not only did they make it look like Andre KILLED Lanny Poffo (that was a SICK blade job for the era), but he tossed Hogan with such ease and just brushed him off like he was nothing. No lie, for the first time ever, Hogan looked like a dead man.
