Ok, I got a Wii, which is great for party games and entertaining my non-gaming guests. Now I'm looking for something with more power (grunt, grunt). Which one should I get?

PS3.
I've had both. Haven't ever had a single problem with my PS3. Of the 3 different 360s I've had, 2 of them died and the other one froze all the time for no reason.

I'd look at the exclusives for each and see what games appeal to you more, then go with that one. X-Box has the better online stuff (you pay for it, but you get what you pay for). PS3 has Blu-Ray and all that jazz.

Look at each system`s exclusives and choose based on which exclusives you want.

My advice would be look up games that you want and to see what console they are for. I prefer that game selection the PS3 offers, the durability of the console itself and the controller over the Xbox 360.

I personally went with the 360. Live is totally worth it.

I would go with a PS3 if just because the list of exclusives for it this year is staggering, and the games they already have are pretty swank.
The diversity is especially great, and online has caught up to 360.
Personally the main reason I would get a 360 is for Live Arcade games, and trust me, there are a lot of great ones and I have almost broken down just for games like Shadow Complex, Splosion Man and Super Meat Boy

PS3. Cheap Blu ray player, free internet gaming, excellent exclusives, easy to switch out hard drives and built in wi-fi access.

Personally I use my X-box way more then my ps3... but again that's just me.
Best way to decide as stated, is to look at the system exclusives, and decided that way. Though the majority of games are available on both.

I think both systems are worth owning, personally. I have a 360, but you can't go wrong with a PS3 either. If you plan on playing a lot of online games on the console, see what your friends have. I'd go with whatever more friends own. Also, see what exclusives each system has that you like. As far as multiplatform games go, a lot of them perform well enough on both consoles, but some are superior on one version compared to another, whether it's more content or better performance. PS3. Cheap Blu ray player, free internet gaming, excellent exclusives, easy to switch out hard drives and built in wi-fi access. 360 now has built in wi-fi, too. And the hard drives are pretty easy to swipe out on both the older and slim models, just that the PS3 has the added benefit of being able to use any SATA hard drive (though it might not physically fit within the system; though getting a laptop SATA HDD should be fine) while the 360's are proprietary. Can't also say the PS3 is a cheap Blu-Ray player anymore, though it is a good one and one of the better ones on the market. PS3 still retails for around $300+ while you can get standalone Blu-Ray players for $150 or less. I've even seen some go for as little as $110. Of course, Blu-Ray is meaningless unless you have an HDTV. And you're not going to notice TOO much of a difference unless your HDTV's capable of 1080p. You'll notice on a 720p/1080i set, but it really stands out from DVD's on 1080p.

Save your money for a bit, buy some good and cheap Gamecube games(For your Wii), wait for about 18 months, and then you can afford both an XBox and a PS3 for the price one'd cost you now.

I have both. They are both good, but I think the PS3 is an overall better machine with a better controller and interface.
Get which one has the exclusives you're interested in

PS3 as it will have the last guardian on it some time in the distant future.

I say PS3. because I work at Blockbuster and not a day goes by where we have another customer who comes in and either needs a disc resurfaced because their 360 left a ring in it, or they buy a PS3 because they're tired of their 360 crapping out on them, or buying a new 360 for the 3rd or 4th time because their system broke again and Microsoft won't take their calls.

I've had both a 360 and a PS3, never had problems with either. I guess it all comes down to exclusive content/games.

PS3.
I had a 360 for about 2 years... Never any huge problems with it... only problem I ever had was the 360 scratching my rockband disk. That said, when MLB The Show came out last year I had to get a PS3 just for this game. Traded in my 360 for a PS3 the day the game came out and have never looked back.
Better titles, blu-ray, wireless internet, free online (for the most part)... I could go on.
So my vote is PS3.

Of course it depends on what PS3 you get, but I also say PS3. If you like any of your old PS2 or PS1 games at all, you can still go back and play them on the PS3. I know you can play X-box games on 360, but with the added bonus of the PS1 games, the PS3's library is just a wee bit bigger. Besides that, I still see my friend's X-boxes crapping out on them, while my PS3 remains alive and well. I think it's just the more durable system.

Only the older PS3's play PS2 games. And good luck finding those. All the PS3's still play PS1 games (they kinda have to with the PS1 Originals section on the PS Store), but only the old 20, 60, and older 80 gig models play PS2 games (and these have been getting much harder and more expensive to find, especially the 20 and 60 gig models. It gets to a point where you're just better off keeping a PS2 if you have one, or buying one separately). And since you're most likely getting a new slim PS3, PS2 backwards compatibility isn't an option at all.
The 360 Red Rings are mostly an issue of the past that have been mainly corrected starting with the Jasper CPU models. The slim Xbox 360's also have a 0% chance of a RRoD (because there's no red LED's in the ring of light, heh). And older PS3's crapping out have been a growing problem, mostly the Yellow Light of Doom (PS3 equivalent of the Red Ring). And unlike MS, Sony's general response to the YLoD has been "sucks for you." Which is another reason why I'd recommend getting a Slim PS3.
