Medium well. I had a lovely sirloin last night actually. I did it slightly too long though, a minute or two less and it would have been perfect. I tend to make that mistake a fair bit, but i quite like well done as well so it's ok. I'd settle for medium too. But in between the two is just right and i always feel accomplished when i achieve that. And forget steak sauce and barbecue sauce, this makes a steak absolute win:

Medium rare. Seared enough so the juices stay in the steak, slow cooked. Seasoned with Lawry's Seasoned Salt. Topped with sauteed garlic and mushrooms, no sauce. Sides of steak fries and asparagus, and appetizer of grilled garlic bread.

Sides of steak fries and asparagus, and appetizer of grilled garlic bread. Ahh, a class act. Pretty much this. Just made two steak tenderloins for my partner and I. Soooo satisfying.

Rare or medium rare, generally rare. Steak sauce is verboten and anathema to the experience.

Oh, I didn't even think about that aspect of the question. *ahem* Seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic powder before it even goes on the grill; sometimes, if I remember, I'll marinade it overnight in a marinade my wife makes. (I'm not 100% sure what's in it, TBH.) Caramelize some onions to go on top; juuuuust before throwing it on the grill, I'll add the tiniest bit of A-1 for those who request it, and (wearing a glove, of course) I'll rub the whole mixture into the meat one last time. Then, I cook it to order (medium rare for me; whatever anyone wants for them) and serve it with the onions on top, with roasted asparagus or steamed broccoli and a baked potato (twice baked if I'm feeling frisky) as sides. Delicious!

The best steak i ever had was a kobe steak in japan. Amazin taste, it beats everything else and they made it just perfectly in a medium rare style. (Really, if you like Steak and you have the chance to go to japan, eat a real kobe steak not the "kobe-style" crap they sell everywhere else)
I like them medium rare. I can't stand steaks well done, all taste is gone and what's left...no wonder people put a lot of other crap on their well done steak to get some taste ;D

I generally don't eat steak, but if I do I'll have it cooked medium. If it's anything else, I'll send it back.

I remember some show that had this myth on it... either Good Eats or Mythbusters, I think. It does taste good, though.
