Well, have you?
I just did last night.
And I'm not sure what to do.
I had a friend Lissette in college, and saw on the right side of my page a person I may know... Lissette. I figured that might be her, since we were kinda in the same group of friends (she was a girlfriend of a good friend).
So I looked at her pic and it was obscured, as a lot of Facebook pictures are, and I added her blindly noticing that she has a lot of mutual friends.
However, it ended up not being that Lissette; it's a current girlfriend of one of my other college friends that I don't even have as a friend on Facebook that I haven't talked to in 8 some-odd years.
It's kinda odd, cuz I've never met this Lissette in my life... do I remove her? Do I ask her to get me in touch with her boyfriend, so maybe I can catch up with him?
I don't know. I try not to add anyone I don't know personally onto my Facebook unless it's someone that I've met in the online world that I feel comfortable sharing my deepest thoughts (deep thoughts such as only texting BTB to girls and the story of the death of my blackberry).
Am I over-reacting?
Or if you don't care about my story, have you ever added the wrong friend on Facebook?

Over-reacting I think. I'm sure it happens all the time. If something comes up about it with the guy, just explain.
I've done it once or twice. Never got a confirmation though

I did it once. It was weird, because her last name is so one of a kind, you expect it to be that person. Turns out, there was another. Who knew.
She actually messaged me that she had no clue who I was, and I apologized. She was actually very kind about it.

No, but this is just another anecdote for why people should get behind my campaign to add a "Who The F*** are You???" button on Facebook for when people send friend requests.

I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe explain to her what happened.

I actually got a friend request from a woman I didn't know and it turned out she added me because she thought I was the same guy who went out with her friend. The guy treated her like crap apparently (cheated on her, etc) and she wanted to give him hell. When I told her I wasn't the same guy - that I have never even visited Newfoundland - she apologized for it and took off.
I should have pretended to be him just to see what nasty things she'd say.

Yep, I did it once. Girl had the same name as this girl I went to elementary school with and was trying to find, and her profile picture was a butterfly drawing instead of, y'know, a picture of HER, so I thought I'd add her because the name is really uncommon. Turned out to be some 17 year old. Whoops.
This is why your profile picture should always be of YOU.

Yeah,it's happened before. But I don't have a problem with it. I've met alot of cool online friends by accident.

I accidentally added a Ryan as a friend when really I was looking for his cousin Riley. They had the same last name and looked similar. He didn't confirm it, thank god.

Not big deal, I had lots of friends who are not people which I know, or who I care to be honest, but somehow are related friends of people which I know, so no big deal

I was once confused with some guy in North Carolina who shared a name with me. Random females would add me all the time, and I didn't figure it out until I stumbled across his page.
For the most part, you just end up being one of those random Facebook friends the person never hits up.

I once accidentally messaged the wrong person. There was a girl I knew in high school who had a similar name to a girl I knew in college (and I was in college when I sent the message). It was a little awkward the next time I saw the college girl, like I'd forgotten who she was or something. Oh, well.

I wouldn't remove her or make a big deal about it. Just let it be and sit there. lol

Never added the wrong friend.
I did get a message, the day after signing up for Facebook. It was from a woman who said she used to baby sit for another person with my name who lived in Philly and his sister, who shared the same name as my sister and was trying to get into contact with the parents. I had no idea who they were, though. It was worded weirdly and for a second I was trying to figure out who the hell she was before skimming the rest.
