Or did I just misunderstand what was said?
So we see Forest and Bubba show up in Vietnam and they are introduced to Lt Dan. While speaking, Dan says "I want you to change your socks every time we stop"
Then a few scenes later we see the platoon out on a march and they all stop to check for charlie. Not one of the soldiers changes their socks.
So was this a continuity error or did Lt Dan just mean when they stopped for rest they should change?

Dan was just being sarcastic. nah, he seemed to take the whole "take care of your feet" thing pretty serious. which just added to his pain when he no longer had any. Or do you mean he was just being sarcastic about how often to change just to solidify the seriousness of it?

What if they stopped to change their socks and got attacked? As you see the one time they did stop they got ambushed.

Also they don't need to show everything that happens in a film. It can slow the film down like anyone seen in an MST3K film that shows people dialing a rotary phone.

I always thought he meant when they stopped and set up camp. If they had to change socks every time they stopped, that....that's a lot of socks.
Not to mention, as was previously stated, that leaves them open for attack.

Yea his legs were fine, its just his spine was curved.

Yea his legs were fine, its just his spine was curved. Basically, he had scoliosis. Not necessarily, but there were similarities between the two conditions. My theory is that Forest did not have a degenerative condition but rather a disproportionate growth condition that he grew out of. The braces would have accommodated that disproportional growth until he was older. The braces likely prevented the base of his spine from curving too much and causing nerve damage that would have eventually paralyzed him from the waist down.
