Last weekend I decided to do some old school gaming on a console that I haven't touched in a decade. I haven't played with the original Playstation at all since I got my first PS2 in 2001. My favorite games from that era are still very very fresh in my memory, so I decided that I would rather play some games that I didn't get the chance to play as a kid.
So far I have picked up Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Chrono Cross, Persona 2, Megaman X5, Metal Gear Solid, Incredible Crisis, and Bushido Blade 2.
I can't believe I never played SOTN back then. I really don't think that it's the best PS1 game ever made like a lot of people claim, but it is definitely an amazing game. I made it to the 2nd castle today (where everything is upside down) with 100% of the first castle covered, but the difficulty level is so intense now that I think I'll take a break and start on something else.
Bushido Blade 2 is fun but a bit repetitive. I might get a little deeper into it later. It's made by Squaresoft so I know it's got to be deeper than it looks.
Incredible Crisis...ugh. It got really good reviews, but I'm just not feeling it. Not a big fan of rhythm based games and this one seems to be pretty difficult also. I may try it again at some point but I don't like what I've played.
I actually played Metal Gear Solid as a kid, but only for a week because I rented it with some other games. I ended up playing the other games more because I didn't quite understand MGS. Since then, I've beaten MGS 2 and 3, so I think I can appreciate the game a little better now. Not in a big hurry to start playing though.
Chrono Cross is a game that I've been wanting to play ever since I first beat Chrono Trigger years ago (I discovered CT when it was released with FF4 on a PSX disc) but I never got my hands on it. From what I understand, it basically has nothing to do with the Chrono Trigger story but is a good RPG on it's on.
Persona 2 is not particularly a game that I ever wanted to play, but I've had a hard time finding the PS2 titles so I figured I could start out with one of the older games. It looks fun and got good reviews so we'll see.
Anyway, I'm wondering what you crappers think. While I'm taking a break from Castlevania what should I play? I want to either play Chrono Cross or Persona 2, but I don't have enough free time to do 2 RPG's at the same time. I'm kind of leaning towards Chrono Cross but Persona 2 has me very intrigued. Which game is shorter? I may want to start with the shortest one first.
