Jut read an article about 10,000 fans that are petitioning for Pete Best to get a street named after him, and that made me think about if he deserves to be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
Pete's brother points out that Pete did over 1,000 shows with the Beatles, which is more than Ringo, and was around in the early days when they were playing up to 9 hours a night on stage.
These days, I think the Hall may very well induct him with the Beatles. You could argue that Stu Sutcliffe could get in as well, though his tenure was much shorter.
Thoughts?

I honestly don't know, part of me says yes and part says no. He might have played more shows than Ringo, but Ringo was The Beatles main drummer and laid down the tracks for the records. So on that ground I say no, but I could see why they'd put him in since he technically was a Beatle.

Maybe one day but certainly not before Brian Epstein is inducted.

I say yes because HOF's are first and foremost supposed to be a museum dedicated to preserving the history of the most famous people, things associated with that HOF's theme. By that criteria Pete Best should be in, because he, and his family played a pivotal role in the early history of the band. In short he may not have been there when the band hit it big, but without him there may never have been a band called the Beatles to hit it big.

Does it really matter? Pete Best was an even more medocre drummer than Ringo Starr. I'm not knocking either guy in that. Ringo deserves to be in their because he was with the Beatles when they were huge. Yes it was Best's mothers club were the Beatles got their start. Yes there is still something weird about his ousting from the band (the fact that Macca still won't talk about tells me that) but as a drummer I just don't see a reason for him to be in there. There are far better drummers like David Garibaldi or Richie Hayward are never going to make it who quite franky should be in the HOF long before Best.

Then you would have to make the argument for all bands that had original members that left or were kicked out before the band got big.
Perhaps they should dedicate a wing of the HOF to the "other guys" in the band.

Perhaps they should dedicate a wing of the HOF to the "other guys" in the band. The first inductees should be Garfunkel, Messina, Oates, and Lisa. (And yes, I realize that Garfunkel was already inducted as part of Simon & Garfunkel.)

I voted no...and even though I did so, because I feel he wasn't truly around long enough and his work isn't well known enough to be put in, I DO feel the surviving Beatles should bury the hatchet with the guy and give him the credit he does deserve for his work in those early days. I don't know the man personally and I don't understand the weirdo ousting he got from the band, but frankly Paul, George, John, and Ringo have all kinda come off as assholes for the way they treated Best...whether he deserves it or not. We don't know the absolute full story.

no... just because I find it comedic in regards to his actual career path and his potential career path. Is there a bigger difference, ever, in the history of mankind? The drummer of the greatest, biggest selling, most influential band of all time to the guy that got booted for Ringo. Thats a steep drop.

No, Dave Mustaine rule. I think since you're only qualified for HoF status 25 years after the release of your first album, only members who have played on an album get in. Ie, Metallica is inducted into the hall of fame without Mustaine, even though he was an original member of the band who co-wrote most of their debut album.

Did he play on any records or write any songs when he was in The Beatles?
