So, how many MMO gamers out there are pretty amped for this game? I admit, I've been following it daily, so every bit of news I eat up... and it really looks like it will be a blast.

Not an MMO gamer, so I really wish Bioware would just give us KOTOR 3 and finish up the story of the games proper, especially after the abortion of an ending they gave KOTOR 2.

I'll probably get it and quit out of boredom a few weeks later just like every other MMO I've played.
They should have made KOTOR 3.

While I also wished they would have a kotor3, I am really looking forward towards this game when it comes out later this year (also mortal kombat, gears3, & arykam city). At least with this game it seems its more open about what you can do than kotor was.

The thing I like is that every character class has an overall storyline for it, which is definitely new in an MMO setting. All class quests will be solo-able, and the class story chain will be longer then KotOR. So w/ 8 classes w/ unique stories, you end up with quite a lot more content then KotOR3 would. I do hope that if ToR is successful that we do get a KotOR3 though. People need to remember, we aren't getting ToR instead of KotOR3, we're getting it instead of nothing.

KotOR 2 had a lot of potential that got ruined by LA forcing a deadline on Obsidion... which resulted in a lot of cut content.

If you guys have KOTOR2 on the PC, check out the KOTOR2 Restoration Mod. It restores just about all the cut content from the game and it really makes the endgame feel a lot more complete. I already adored KOTOR2 (moreso than the first as I love Black Isle/Obsidian's writing) but this makes it that much more awesome.
I'm really looking forward to this MMO personally. Not too much of an MMO person, but I enjoy Star Wars way too much not to check it out. And it definitely looks way better than Galaxies ever did.

I'd prefer KOTOR 3 but, The Old Republic is possibly the only MMO I'd actually pay for.
Depending on how they do the subscription fee. I heard they're doing in in a different style, a micro-somthing format?
I'm hoping that's a bit of a pay as you play type of deal since I don't wanna get stuck in a year long contract where I might get bored of playing the game after 2 months and yet still have to pay a subscription.

There's no real word on the subscription fee, but it will most likely be the standard monthly fee. Micro-transactions are whack. With those access to the game is free, but you have an online store where you pay money for items, content, etc. Basically you end up with people playing to have ultra leet characters. As far as subscriptions go, most are handled on a monthly basis, so if you decide you don't wanna play any more, you just cancel it. They do have deals where you can pay in blocks of months at discounted prices as well usually. No MMO is gonna lock you into a year long contract, it's a game, not cell phone lol

Ah, thanks. I didn't know you could get out of the contract, I just assumed it was a year long thing which has always put me off. Maybe this'll be the first MMO I buy, I love the whole Star Wars universe, KOTOR and can imagine this been a pretty fun game.

Can't MMO's just have prepaid Time Cards as an alternative? World of Warcraft used to do it last time I checked, although I haven't played in a while so they might have gotten rid of that. I hate having to use credit cards. That's why I don't play most MMO's.

Well I haven't heard DC Universe Online doing this yet (yeah, I know it just came out), hopefully they do, as well as TOR, because I really want to play these. I want to be able to go to my local Gamestop, Best Buy, etc. and buy prepaid Time Cards for these games. Otherwise, I'm not going to bother.

They do have deals where you can pay in blocks of months at discounted prices as well usually. No MMO is gonna lock you into a year long contract, it's a game, not cell phone lol I have to disagree. Turbine's Dungeons and Dragons Online has the Micro-transactions and is booming which affords Turbine to crank out new content regularly. The game is free to download, and if you don't want to spend anything you don't have too. Ever. There's also really only Mana Potions available in the store to uber up your character, but Mana Potions are available in game too. That's I think why their microtransaction model is working so well. They have 3 ways to play. Free to Play, Premium, and VIP. Free to Play is just that. Never have to spend a dime, and it's completely possible to play every bit of the game. It'll take countless hours of grinding favor, but can be done. More on favor in a bit. Premium is for people that have at one point paid somthing. Either to purchase Turbine Points or a subscription. They get a bit more than the F2P people but not much. More on the Turbine Points in a second. Then VIP. That's the monthly subscription, and the one I'm on. We get almost all of the everything. I think one or two classes are all we don't get for our monthly fee. So those are the three payment options. Now Favor is what you get for completing quests. Usually anywhere from 3-12 for low level quests depending on difficulty. When you hit favor milestones like 25 favor or 100 favor you get free Turbine Points. Turbine Points are what you pay the DDO Store to buy anything. So you get free Turbine Points from playing the game, or you can buy Turbine Points. That's usually the difference between F2P and Premium. VIP's get some 'free' TP's each month. So all three methods get you Turbine Points. Turbine Points are really only good for a few things in the store. Some of the best things like being able to create level four characters instead of starting at level one or getting 32 build points instead of 28 are usually unlocked as extra favor awards on top of the free Turbine Points. Or you can buy them for Turbine points if you don't want to wait. Bar none the best thing in the DDO Store to purchase with Turbine Points are the adventure packs. An update comes out, half have new quests. Some new quests are free to play others are pay to play. VIPs get them right away and everyone else has to buy them. And they buy them in droves because there's more loot, experience, and favor to pull out of the new quests. The rest of the stuff in the DDO Store are mostly convience items or cosmetic. Hair dyes, arrows if you run out mid quest, extra bank space, extra character slots. There are tomes that increase your stats by 2 points, but they drop fairly frequently they're not required to buy. And +3 or +4 tomes only drop in high level quests negating the effect of an earlier +2 tome. So they base the game as player versus envornment with almost no player versus player and keep all the best gear only available in game. They sell the adventures and not the loot. And buying the adventures ends up cheaper than a subscribtion. Last I heard if you waited for everything to go on sale, they had every adventure pack on sale in December, it'd run you about 180 dollars to have everything. Less if you bought your points bundles when they were offering double bonus points. That's about a year of VIP. The difference is if I cancel my subscription I can't play those quests I havn't bought. Premium keeps everything they've purchased. Might not be able to find a server if Turbine pulls the plug, but you still own what you paid for. So microtransactions can, can, be a fantastic way to play. As long as they keep the microtransactions to convience or cosmetic items and just new content. And I hope Old Republic follows a similiar model. I'd eagerly sign up for a 'premium' structure. I'm not getting near another subscription though.

Nothing to really do with the topic at hand, but I remember being at PAX 09 and they had these big screens set up in the line up area where like this Wargames computer thing would type out stuff and have contests and all these different things. But I remember the one thing they did a lot with it was play that CG trailer for The Old Republic.
Finally at the line for the second night's concerts. It was asking people if they had seen the trailer for The Old Republic, and clearly getting annoyed by it the ENTIRE huge group of people in line all shouted "YES!" With quite a few adding in "REPEATEDLY!" Then the screen asked if they had seen it on the big screen. And again a huge "YES!". Well the screen went ahead and played the trailer again anyways, and I remember one guy stood out from all of the annoyed sighs everyone made with "OH GOD DAMMIT HAL!"
Needless to say that guy got laughs and applause by all.

I will say, I've just recently started playing DDO and is doing the FTP thing very well actually, better then LotRO for sure. LotRO is a fun game, but little things like making you pay to get your mount, etc is kinda whack.
