Duder- I LOVE Coheed and Cambria. I have their logo tattooed on me. That kinda love.
That being said, I could not agree less with Year of the Black Rainbow.
This album may stand out as my biggest disappointment in the history of recorded music. I think the songwriting is far below their usual standard (Guns of Summer being a particularly awful example), and the production rendered the album almost unlistenable. It's incredibly noisy and one demensional sounding. Almost sounds like they just pushed the faders all the way up and went "Okay, done!" It's just an indistinguishable mess of sound.
On a side note, I am VERY underwhelmed by the playing of Chris Pennie. I hoped for much more from a Dillinger alumni. I have seen him live several times, and he is just awful. His solo portion on the No World for Tomorrow tour being especially cringe-worthy. Josh Eppard was amazing, Taylor Hawkins did a damn fine job on No World for Tomorrow, on which Taylor based his parts on what Chris had written. Chris Pennie just seems lost when playing Josh's stuff, and also when playing the parts he wrote.

It's different and oddly produced, for sure. That said, I share that love with you. Whenever I actually get money, the keywork is going to be my first tattoo.

Crap. Crap. Crap.
I, um, forgot two albums, and I realized that as I was looking over notes. Realistically number 1 is The Black Keys, Brothers.
With the The Dead Weather's Sea of Cowards on the other side. I knew I was missing something.
Sorry Dude, I love Coheed, but this year totally got owned by The Black Keys.

I don't think I've ever seriously listened to The Black Keys...so there's another I really need to check out.

I haven't heard hardly any of the stuff in this thread, I have a lot to catch up on! Here are the top 10 albums that I thought sizzled like a sizzlin' hot sizzler steak in 2010:
10. Johnny Cash - American VI: Ain't No Grave
9. Brian Wilson - Brian Wilson Re-imagines Gershwin
8. The Residents - Residents Brava
7. Elvis Costello - National Ransom
6. Killing Joke - Absolute Dissent
5. Cyndi Lauper - Memphis Blues
4. Daniel Johnston & BEAM - Beam Me Up Daniel
3. Red Krayola - Five American Portraits
2. Los Lobos - Tin Can Trust
1. R. Kelly - Love Letter

M.I.A. - MAYA; this was a very tough listen. Most of it was discordant, cacophonous and terribly self-indulgent. There are brief moments of "wow, this is brilliant" but then it devolves into a muddy mess. Shame, really. I liked it a lot, but I'm an M.I.A mark anyway. It is her least "commercial"-sounding effort yet, though.
