Went to a free screening tonight. Wish I hadn't wasted the gas to get there.
Seriously, I f***ing hated this movie. At the beginning, they introduce so many characters in rapid succession that it's hard to keep them all straight, especially when they're in military gear and the camera in action scenes is extremely shaky and cuts around a lot so you have a hard time seeing who's who. It doesn't matter though, since they're all action movie stereotypes (guy about to retire going on one last mission, guy with pregnant wife, guy about to get married, guy with brother who died in line of duty, newbie, etc.) and the wide majority of them are cannon fodder anyway.
And it was shot more like a horror movie with many jump scares than a military one. And that wasn't enough to save it from being extremely dull.
This movie not only gets a thumbs down from me, it gets a middle finger up.

It looked like Independence Day done in a District 9 style while the trailer resembled a Transformers trailer (see Dragon Wars trailer for another example of that.)
Beyond that, everything about the trailer made it look like overly derivative, very much already trodden crap.

Honestly, I generally enjoy Aaron Eckhart as an actor but there is a scene in this movie that is destined to become an internet meme: {Spoiler}His command is questioned by a soldier whose brother died under Eckhart's leadership on a past mission gone wrong. He gets in his face and attempts his best Christian Bale tough-guy voice (which he must have picked up on the set of The Dark Knight) as he says how he wishes that he could trade places with any of the men he's lost and begins to list their name, rank, and ID number. By his facial movements, though, he may have just been having a mild stroke...... Needless to say, there was quite a bit of laughter in the theater during this scene that was meant to be emotional

I'm still watching this film on Sunday. What can I say? It looks good to me and negative reviews won't keep me from seeing it.

Good, don't let anyone else's opinion taint your own. Enjoy the film.
That said, and I've only seen the trailers, this looks HORRENDOUS but now I might have to see it for the spoilered scene above...

I want to see it. It won't be a cinematic masterpiece, but I generally like popcorn flicks like this.

So, was it at least fun? I want to see it because it had a good trailer, but if its not even fun...

I didn't enjoy it one bit, typical SCI-Fi crap we've seen a million times.

I'm bored with these kinds of movies. Alien invasion, stupid "lost alien" that needs help, and "we attacked them first" movies. As a change of pace I'd love to see an alien movie where the aliens come to our planet to find new life and new frontiers, and the results of that happening.
Before anyone says "District 9" I DO NOT consider that an "alien exploration" movie...it's a dumb "lost alien" movie (even though I guess they aren't really technically lost.). I guess I'm kind of asking for something in the same vein as what happened in the history of Star Trek...more drama, political, cultural, and maybe even religeous exchanges, stuff like that.

What is up with all these alien invasion movies? We had like two or three in the 90s and ever since we've had like a million of them.

What is up with all these alien invasion movies? We had like two or three in the 90s and ever since we've had like a million of them. Its a phase. Like teen sex comedies after american pie. Or probably Indie comic book movies. Eventually they'll move on and then repeat when they become nostalgic.

I so the 12:01 am showing and I really enjoyed it. Pretty much Black Hawk Down with aliens. Yea it will not get any Oscars but I thought it was good. Aliens didnt really seem all that different from us as far as tactics and munitions.

When the trailer feels like a plot summary of other alien movies, you're in trouble.

So, is it worse than Skyline?
I caught 10 minutes of it by peeking my head in the theatre and was sorely disappointed.

What the heck is wrong with you people!? This movie was awesome. Sure it wasn't Oscar worthy, and they laughably told not showed in the beginning, but it was damn good as far as invasion movies go.
NOT REALLY SPOILERS, MORE TALKING ABOUT FORM It had some, but a lot less patriotic bs than Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich movies. It actually explained things, sure the invasion reason was dumb, but otherwise it was a nice change of pace. Any kids were not there screaming for the entire movie. Within 5 minutes it told you exactly what the movie was. END NOT REALLY SPOILERS
It was an invasion movie, and it was good for what it was.

I jus goit back from seeing it, and I enjoyed it.
Is it going to be critically acclaimed for acting? No.
But it was a fun movie that told you exactly what it was early in, had some great effects, and some pretty good performances by everyone in it.
Certainly seemed batter than Skyline. At least the aliens had weaknesses in this one, and it was certainly more believable in the reasons for the invasion.

Skyline was ok, but they should've ended that movie as the couple was being beamed up. The rest of Skyline was really lame.
