Yes, I realize the title of this thread sounds like a band from the 60s. ;D
But I'm just wondering for those who saw the PPV...did the table Wade was under break from those chairs falling on it? They didn't show the aftermath on RAW.
If they didn't break the table....what's the issue Punk is having? Barrett wouldn't even have been touched by any of them...it's not like he dropped a car on top of him and it smushed him.
Just seems silly for Punk to use that spot to show how ruthless Cena is, when really all Cena did was drop a bunch of light weight chairs on a table that Wade happened to be under.

With him being under the table, the entire spot was goofy looking in my view. No part of him was vulnerable to folding chair assault; it just looked silly.

Punk had a beef with Cena being there when he was fired and still being involved in the storyline.

It was a stupid spot, only because Cena put that crate thing over Wade. Honestly, he probably could have taken those chairs falling on him without any protection and been fine, as long as his head was covered that is. It was a really cool idea, just poor execution. I don't see how anybody could watch that spot from 50 different angles and go "Oh man that had to have hurt" unless they have no common sense at all.

It's like the old JR clip "how do you learn to fall off a 20 foot ladder?" YOU DON'T. The price of pulling off a really awesome spot is that it freaking hurts. Jeez, if today's fans had it their way the only way we would've gotten stuff like Foley being thrown from the Cell is if he had wires hooked to him and fell in slow motion.

If they had dropped the chairs without Barrett being under the table, people would have complained that he was put in harms way for the sake of a cool visual. It would be like us complaining about indy wrestlers doing terrible and dangerous spots just for the hell of it.
Really, it seems like the only way everyone would've been happy is if the spot hadn't been done at all.

Not a very fun spot.
I know they can't just go and drop a bunch of chairs on Barrett without protection, but if they were gonna do this it needed to at least semi LOOK like Barrett was getting hit.

In a perfect world, Wade would've come out from under the crate thing and said "Was that supposed to hurt?"

That finish was horrid. I finally got to see it and I thought...that is supposed to hurt Wade how? I'm glad at least he's selling the abuse he took in the match though. Too bad Cena can't do the same. A week straight of getting assaulted with chairs and he's still running strong. Someone lock up that man's vitamins and don't let him say his prayers!

Metal plank, I think Cena dropping that on him hurt more than the chairs

Selling....what? It's not like the chairs are so heavy that they broke through the table. Duh, man. It wasn't devastating, so they've been overselling it as devastating the entire time. You don't have to believe it, but that is the purpose. Punk is selling it as a gross misuse of his stardom. he's the only one that can get away with it because of his star power, and everyone turns a blind eye. Which is why the announcers have been putting it over as vicious. It doesn't matter if it's unconventional logic. It's WRESTLING.

Metal plank, I think Cena dropping that on him hurt more than the chairs Except the legs on it made it tall enough it wasn't really "on" him, but more "over" him.

Jeez, if today's fans had it their way the only way we would've gotten stuff like Foley being thrown from the Cell is if he had wires hooked to him and fell in slow motion. Actually, it wouldn't have happened at all because that spot was f***ing retarded. Unnecessarily dangerous? Yes. Retarded? Nah It wasn't like the repeated chair shots that Foley took at the Rumble in 99, because that was a spot that people really only remember when having discussions about chair shots these days. That cell bump was legendary. Replayed regularly for years. It was the most iconic spot of the Attitude era and maybe WWE/WWF history. Were you even watching back then? I was watching the PPV that night with some friends and we all became Foley fans for life after that match. It was definitely not pointless.

That almost killed Foley. And for what? A one night reaction that still didn't get him sufficiently over as a heel. He had to show the genuinely nice Mick Foley personality to get over in the attitude era. To the extent whereby people didn't want to see him take punishment because they liked the guy. And at the end of the day, this isn't meant to be real. It's meant to be trained wrestlers doing things that look dangerous but are safe. And doing them when it means something, not for every feud and every type of match. Maybe then we'll see wrestlers like Morrison still healthy at forty and not looking as beat-up as Jeff Hardy and Abyss.
