Seriously though, name one successful wrestler that lasted 10+ years without reinventing themselves at some point. He desperately needs a gimmick change. The Master Lock has been broken in the past. It's over. Done. Find something new. Something. Anything.

I've been a Masters fan since his team with Carlito. He's not a bad wrestler and seems to genuinely love what he's doing (even when hardly being used). I wouldn't mind seeing him get an IC title push, honestly.

I never got the appeal of the guy, maybe it was the fact that I think a full nelson isn't a believable finisher, or the fact that the guy, even in his heel days, always seemed bland to me. He's young still and has definitely improved in ring. As for a full nelson being legit, few moves are as dangerous in a real world sense, hence why it's banned in amateur wrestling. I like the fact that they treat it more as a strangulation move when he does it. There are just a lot of young guys who are more entertaining than him to me. He's vanilla and he doesn't really seem to have any presence to me. If they repackaged him into an interesting gimmick and changed his look, he could work, but as he has ever been in the company, I've not gotten the appeal. For the full nelson, it's banned in amateur wrestling, but in most combat sports (the kind that allow striking), it's very limited in application. It's not really one of the most dangerous RL moves, it's only really that dangerous in sports where you can do nothing but grapple. In wrestling, logically, it would be one of the easiest moves to get out of unless there was something getting in the way of it.

I would remiss if I didn't bring the following up:
"That Chris Masters... He's a big guy, isn't he?" Bruno Sammartino on Chris Masters.

First of all, I think the Master Lock works because not only are full nelsons painful to be in but Master's is also swinging them back and forth like a rag doll as he does it. Makes the move look even more brutal.
As for Masters I think they're really letting him try and build himself back up on NXT. His in ring skill and charisma seemed to have improved since I last saw him. Let him continue to build on that and maybe have him add a few new tweaks to his gimmick on NXT, since it's not televised anyway. Find out what works and what doesn't before using it on SD.

Build him up some and have him start to call his fans The Masterflock.

When he retires he could always get a job on the sidelines, like the timekeeper. He'd control the masterclock....

I say his physique actually looks better than before. The excess muscle did him no favors and pretty much screamed his steroid abuse to the world.
