its one thing we will never know, it's possible at one point they may have lifted idea's from here through someone connected to them, but do they lurk here all the time waiting for idea's? nah they have better things to do with thier time.
i'd love to know if anyone from the wwe did post here though.

On the one hand, there are times like Batista with a basketball that was such a specifically 'Crap fad that it seems like it had to have been done on purpose.
On the other hand, if WWE wanted to give us a subtle nod, surely they would have had Chris Masters come to the ring wearing a sombrero, or booked Dennis Stamp or something by now...

I say false. If they did steal ideas from here then their programming would be more tolerable....

Can someone explain the whole Batista/basketball story to me? I wasn't around here during that time.
I've heard the "Basketballs don't hold grudges" promo and I've seen that Lakers/Nuggets thing where Batista carried a basketball, but seriously how does the 'Crap take credit for any of this?

I believe they have people who look through the web to see what people are thinking.
Dana White has a Sherdog account. Im willing to bet the WWE has feelers on the web.

I'd bet money that they're aware of every major wrestling forum. Now, the difference between "aware", and "actively cherrypicking ideas from" is a pretty huge difference, and a leap I don't want to make, but I'd say it's a better than even chance they know we're out here.

I'll go with this. I'd say a company the size off WWE would be foolish not to have to have people who scour the 'net for feedback on the overall product. We can kid ourselves when we say the IWC doesn't mean much to the 'E, but it's the most easily-accessible source of information when it comes to how their programming is recieved. One or two people could easily cover the top ten or so forums on the web and keep an eye on the bigger dirtsheets. Whether they actually steal ideas? Maybe, maybe not. Who's to say that the idea of carrying a basketball out to the ring wasn't Batista's? Because I'm pretty damn sure he's had a Batista Photoshop thread or two come to his attention.

The WWE Legal department sending out cease and desist letters to protect their intellectual property is a big difference than WWE Creative department searching the web for feedback/ideas I think. The WWE is a big corporation remember, and for anyone who has worked in a large corporation you know that the right hand doesn't always know what the left hand is doing.
I'm more inclined to believe Batista came out with a basketball to just to show off that he can palm one - which makes him look bigger and tougher, I guess. It was relative to the angle they were doing anyway. If you guys really want to believe it was a tribute this forum, then go right ahead. If you believe in ghosts, and something goes bump in the night, then it must be a ghost, right?

I doubt they "steal" specific ideas for storylines and angles (particularly since most of the things we suggest around here are fairly archetypal pro wrestling setups), but there are certainly IWC memes that have made their way onto TV as in-jokes.
I did feel rather flattered when Sheamus told Kane that some fans were calling him the new Big Red Monster.

If Chris Masters ever came to the ring in a sombrero I'd probably shit my pants.

If Chris Masters ever came to the ring in a sombrero I'd probably s*** my pants. Likewise. And Masters himself IS aware of the idea. Then again, he's on tv so sporadically anyways, I'm not shocked it's never even been thought about.

I often wonder, hypothetically, if there IS a WWE mole in our midst, how would would ferret that person out. What would the signs be?

If you believe in ghosts, and something goes bump in the night, then it must be a ghost, right? Speaking of ghosts! The Lord Alfred Hayes promo on 'Old School' Raw was a mark-out moment for me. I don't know about this forum, but I think WWE is reading/listening to that other site/program that has no association with The 'Crap . I don't think "The Shockmaster" references that have been made on WWE TV wouldn't of even been thought of (or even been remembered) if RD Reynolds didn't write a famous induction of it.

As for Batista carrying the basketball, here's the thing: It was a basketball themed episode. We had 10 guys wearing jerseys. Someone had to come out with a ball. Batista was the top guy at the time, so they gave it to him. That's all there is to it.

Well, he added The Society To Put A Sombrero On Chris Masters on myspace a couple years back, so he at least had to know that the idea was in the ether for some reason. Not sure if he's ever officially acknowledge it.
