Last night's show was written by Paul Heyman and then put through the tweaking process by WWE creative. For those of you who thought Heyman would have some kind of creative control of the brand, you found out otherwise last night. This is a Vince McMahon production and we saw that last night. Reports backstage were that Heyman wrote the show to meet McMahon's expectations and visions of ECW.
Speaking of Heyman, people who saw him backstage told me it was pretty clear that he thought the show was a train wreck. In fact, everyone I talked to in the company felt the same way. They all knew that the show was a complete disaster and a failure.
The reason Tazz's PPV "match" with Jerry Lawler was put on the show is because the show actually ran short and they had to fill time. They also missed a few cues in the battle royal, forcing the production team to fix the mistakes in the 90 minute window that they had after the taping ended to before it aired.
Ring Announcer Steven DeAngelis was brought in to work the show but was told in the afternoon that he was not going to be used and sent home, despite the fact that WWE had told DeAngelis to come to the show and that he would be used. WWE chose to use Justin Roberts instead. I would ask why, but there wouldn't be a good answer so why bother? I think it was a really low move by WWE to DeAngelis. Then again, at least he wasn't a part of the train wreck.

I was wondering about DeAngelis, I guess WWE felt it was easier to have one of their own, than rather have an extra person on the payroll.

Heyman-I want a 20 minute wrestling match with Angle vs Justin credible.
Vince- Hmmmmm that could be good. but you know what would be better?Squash credible and we'll bring out a generic blonde girl to strip.
Heyman-I thought I was in charge of...
Vince-ECW ECW ECW ECW ECW ECW!

If this garbage continues, I have a feeling that Paul Heyman is going to quit. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the entire ECW roster (the guys who are primarily known for their work in ECW, not WWE guys like Big Show and Angle) will go on strike.

Going on strike doesn't really work unless you have a union. If the ECW guys went on strike it would just mean Mark Henry and Rob Conway going to ECW to replace them.

Welcome to Invasion 2006.
Is it too early to induct this into wrestlecrap yet?
Even if (somehow) vince manages to salvage this and turn it into something good, that first show deserves an induction in and of itself.
If that first show is any indication, ECW 2006 is going to go the way of the XFL, WBF, and Invasion 2001
I can actually see how this conversation went......
Heyman: Here's my plan for this week's show.
Vince: "Look, it spins!". Great line. Hm. Don't like RVD coming out on top -- might make cena look bad. Gotta change that.
Heyman: But how are we supposed to build stars if we keep jobbing them out like this?
Vince: We'll figure that out later. Rewrite that so cena comes out looking good. (looks over script again)........hm......zombie thing Ok. Angle vs. JC.........wait, why are they allotted 15 minutes of time?
Heyman: Well, I figure 15 minutes is enough time to let Justin Credible show off what he's got. From there, we can review his match and see what we can do with him. If anyone can make him look good, it's Angle. If he can hang with angle, we'll give him a good push.
Vince: Nope. Squash match. These ECW guys have to pay their dues.
Heyman: <sigh>
Vince: And where's the stripper?
Heyman: Who?
Vince: Kelly. Didn't you get the memo?
Heyman: Oh, her. With everything else I wanted to do, there was really no room for her. Plus, she has no interest in wrestling anyway and doesn't look all that bright.
Vince: The stripper stays. Angle's match gets cut to a 90 second squash. That gives you plenty of time for about 3 promos or so with her.
(Heyman throws up a little in his mouth.)
. . . . .
Vince: And the battle royal. Why is show not booked to win?
Heyman: I need to show off some ECW talent somewhere. Like I keep saying, how am I supposed to get ECW over if I'm forced to book them like second rate jobbers every time?
Vince: Fine. Sabu can win the match itself, but I want show eliminaing every single other person in the match. I can't have my home-grown talent losing to these ECW hacks.
Heyman: .....

Lol, did you have a tape recorder with you last night? And I don't see the need to constantly wear ECW shirts, we know you're ECW. I guess it's to make sure the fans don't think they're Velocity jobbers. I wouldn't be surprised if they called it SECW=Sports Entertainment Championship Wackiness

The whole goal is to keep fans interested, and I guess they pulled that off tonight. I'm going to watch next week to see if they can bounce back from this.

They're just trying to get some WWE fans across to the new ECW, im sure it'll change in a few weeks, just stick with it for a bit longer and see, plus a 15 minute match in a one hour debut show isnt perhaps the best use of time (im not saying the stripper was, but it appeals to a fan base thats easily swayed into watching)

Yeah, this whole ECW thing has definetly gotten off on the wrong foot. Heyman was naive to think he'd get control, though. Vince don't roll that way, because Vince is a control freak.
If this keeps up, it probably won't make it past the initial 12 week trial.

If that wasn't the exact conversation, it had to be pretty damn close.

Paul Heyman can quit, but it would be a fairly stupid move, I feel. He signed a contract with McMahon that will prevent him from going to any other wrestling company, so he'll simply be sitting at home and not getting paid (unless he wants to take a job at Pizza Hut with Vince Russo, or something). If he stays on, even though this seems to be a disaster in the making, he can at least be involved and try to minimize that damage to what was once his company. Frankly, I see being more apt to do that, rather than simply throwing everything away.

I'm not going to give up. I'll probably watch all 12 weeks.
I just hope Vince gets his head out of his @$$ and just lets Heyman book the show. For crying out loud, it's one hour of programming. Can't Vince let someone not related to him handle just ONE hour of his programming?

POINT BLANK,if you put this show in front of a wwe crowd it will bomb.Put this show in front of real ECW fans and it helps a lot.IMO the fans of ECW give the show energy rather than some volicity or heat program feeling

Can't Vince let someone not related to him handle just ONE hour of his programming? One thing I've never understood: Vince owns it all now. Every wrestler that makes money puts more money into Vince's pockets. Does it really matter if that wrestler is HHH, Cena, Sabu, or Little Guido? And does it really matter where they made a name for themselves? If I were Vince, I wouldn't care if Sabu made his name in ECW, Japan, TNA, indys, WWE, or on Mars. If I am making money off him, that's all that matters to me. I just don't understand the constant need to job out every wrestler who's not "home grown".
