So who's playing? PS3 or PC? Whatcha think so far?
I just picked it up for my trusty rusty PS3 and I'm pretty impressed thus far with the play. Although it seems buggy as heck right now and BUSY. Damn, its harder getting on a server than it is to pass the SATs intoxicated, blindfolded, and falling out of an airplane. I guess I didn't hear a lot about it so I'm a little surprised to see no copies on store shelves and the servers filled to the bursting.
So who else has given it a whirl? What ya'all think?

I really want to get this but I'm lacking funds at the moment. I've been hearing mixed things so I'm thinking about waiting a little longer and see how everything ends up playing out.

I'm absolutely loving it. I've got four different characters that I'm playing right now, with a 5th coming. I'm playing on the PS3. The servers have gone up and down, and maybe they didn't expect it do so well.

The PS3 subscription fee puts me off.
I find paying £40 for a game and then having to pay £10 a month just in order to play it to be nothing more than legalised robbery tbh.
If other games like COD can have plenty of servers and provide a good online service for free then surely MMORPG's can as well.
It sounds like a really fun game but, I just don't like been ripped off. I mean, if I buy it and get bored I'm stuck paying a subscription fee that I bet is a complete bitch to get out of/cancel.

It takes, what, a week to complete a game?
Most games cost £40 - 60 quid.
So you can complete four games a month and never play them again, or spend £10 on a subscription to a game that will come out with semi-regular DLC that comes as part of the subscription.
I know what I'll go for.

Yeah subscription fees are bad enough, but I get why they're there for games of the genre. It's a tough sell on console though because other than paying for services like live or playstation plus we're not used to having to pay to play one game. Hopefully the price will drop and eventually become free to play like Champions Online is doing soon.

I know what I'll go for. I can kinda see your point but, that doesn't really occur with me. Only games I pay full price for are ones which I know will take a long time to complete and have high-replay value. Games like Fallout, Mass Effect, Dragon Age etc where you can replay them and get different stories, endings, character choices etc and where each play through takes about 40+ hours of gameplay time. Unless it's something I really want, most of the games I buy I always wait until they're about £20. Plus it's just that there doesn't seem to be a point. Plenty of games can supply good online modes for free of charge so why charge people for MMORPG's on top of the games retail value? I haven't played DC Universe but apaprently it is really buggy. If they're charging people a subscription on top of the games retail price the developers could at least make sure the game actually works correctly before releasing it. I'd be so pissed off if I paid £40+ for a game, plus £10+ a month on a subscription fee only for the game to have a number of bugs and flaws that could easily have been fixed before release. Once again, I haven't played it. I'm just going by what other folks have said abut it been pretty buggy.

Because they spent WAY too much developing it for that system to be financially viable.
The beta crashed a lot. I looked for how to stop it, and was told to turn the PS3 specs down. Crashed far less after that.

Isn't Champions Online (a similar game) either now free to play or going to free soon?

That's not much of an excuse for ripping people off. DC Universe cost what, $50 million wasn't it? Plenty of games cost a lot to develop and manage to make many with the initial £40 retail cost. Hell, GTA 4 cost $100 million to develop and GTA 5 cost $80 million so development costs shouldn't be an issue. I can understand smaller franchise MMORPG's with high-development costs to charge a subscription fee to make money since there's no guarantee they'll make much. For DC though which is a huge franchise and pretty much guaranteed to make money, it just seems like greed from the developers. it'll cost around £120 plus the £40 game cost to buy it. That's way too much, I very rarely spend that on all the games I play a year anyway plus, there's no guarantee that people will get their moneys worth with the possibility of the game getting boring for a while. I've never paid a subscription fee but I'm guessing they can't be easy to cancel if you stop playing the game for whatever reason?

Not really a fair comparison given GTA 4/5 had a built in audience from earlier games. Heck, GTA 4 sold six million copies in the first week. Even given into DC popularity, I can't see them selling that many games in the first month.

Even given into DC popularity, I can't see them selling that many games in the first month. True, they won't make anywhere near as much as GTA and probebly Gran Turismo but, they're still bound to make enough money from sales alone without the need for the subscription. Even if the developers are worried about the costs, charging a bit more for the game without lumbering folks with a subscription fee would surely be a better option? Like say, charge £50-£60 instead of £40.

I'm fine with paying so long as the game is good, keeps my interest, and is supported plenty. I payed for WoW and thus far am more impressed with this game.
I see it this way. I could play a game and get done with it and move onto the next one and pay far more than fifteen bucks that next month. I could pay for DVDs, blu rays, books, comics, a night out, etc etc and if I get comparable value for what I likely would have spent that money on I'm pleased. That amount is actually far more than fifteen bucks for me.
So far I've only rolled a couple of toons on the villain side of things. One on a PVE server, one on a PVP server. So far, even though I'm a small fry incapable of really mixing it up, I think the PVP server may just be for me. Mostly cause it appears harder to camp than in WoW, which was like 99% of my problem on those PVP servers.
The missions are fun, but being on the PS3 it is hard to communicate with other players unless I buy the headset and/or perhaps the keyboard for the system. I don't know much about what is best but I can't wait to form some sort of Legion of Super Villainy or Society of Justice Bros.
